Critics have selected this as being one of the best issues in a series devoted to some of the principal singers of the C20th. I never heard much of the work of the Belgian soprano Suzanne Danco (1911-2000) either in performance or on record, but she was clearly and gifted and intelligent singer. I get a sense that not only have all note values, phrasing and dynamics been thoroughly studied, but also that ways of articulating words been mastered to ensure that both music and text are fully conveyed. You'll notice this as you listen to the first tack. The Belgian soprano's English is clearer than that of many a home grown product. The items selected derive from three recordings sessions held between 1947 and 1952. If you are prepared to forgive some occasional faint surface noise, pre-echo and wiry violin sounds in some of these tracks, then you will be able to appreciate some very fine singing.

This is a multi-purpose CD. Insert it in your computer CD ROM drive and you’ll not only hear each track, but be able also to read biographical details, see a gallery photos of the singer, and find a discography.
