5.0 out of 5 stars Bring On The Roine!, 6 Oct 2001
Roine Stolt & Co have done it again. Their prolific output never seems to dip in quality and The Rainmaker is certainly going to win yet more fans for its quality Prog rock.
The CD is long (Over 70 minutes) but the tracks are a little shorter than on previous albums - condensing the highly melodic tunes works well. The quality of musicianship is top notch (as usual) and the sound is spot on. There are prog experiments inter-laced with jazz, rock, pop and even a little music that would work well as a film score.
All in all this is a lovely album that would be well worth a buy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Flower Kings' weakest., 8 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This is by far the weakest effort by Sweden's brilliant Flower Kings. This a much heavier album than previous efforts. Hasse Froberg assumes a much more dominant role as vocalist and he unfortunately spoils the outing. There are times within the same song where Froberg and Roine Stolt take turns with the lead vocals. When Froberg sings it sounds like an over-emoting hard rock singer, when Stolt sings he brings it back to the land of prog. Instrumental interplay is also less inspired than on earlier recordings. Bodin and Jaime Salazar sound uncharacteristically restrained. Get any of the rest of the catalogue before venturing into this one-it's for die-hards or fans of metal-prog...Simon

5.0 out of 5 stars Progressive rock at its finest, 12 April 2002
By A Customer
For me this is the best album of 2001. Sure it's long and complex but personally I feel the Flower Kings have produced their best album yet with this stunning masterpiece. Now more than ever the band seemed to have found their own unique sound and direction combining stunning complex instrumental sections with dreamy vocal melodies. Complex yet highly listenable , diverse yet cohesive , I would highly recommend this album to every fan of progressive and heavy rock.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not classic flower power
For me the stand-out track on this album is 'Serious Dreamers'. It's so good I can forgive the band the bits where it sounds just like 'Going for the One'-era Yes and... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite up to the bands excellent standard
This is a much harder edged effort than earlier recordings. There is more emphasis on Roine Stolt's guitarwork and less on Tomas Bodin's keyboard work. Read more
