It's a mystery to me why this piece is not better known. I came to it through Kenyon's Pocket Guide to Mozart in which he gives it 4 stars. It is a beautiful, deeply reflective piece of mature Mozartian music; the long 2nd movement Adagio explores such sonorous depths of counterpoint and is my own particular favourite.

And what a group of musicians to take this piece on! Mariane Thorson has a wonderfully light touch on violin but her work is always passionate and involved. I saw her perform the much better known Sinfonia Concertante K364 in London recently with the viola player Lawrence Power and was stunned. I wait in anticipation for them to release a recording of this wonderful piece. The two compositions strike similar responses within me so if you enjoy K364 then a wonderful new discovery awaits you in the Divertimento K563. Buy this CD and enjoy superb music, most artfully played, for years to come!
