After the drudgery of Sudden Impact, the third and worst sequel to Dirty Harry, no one could have expected the fourth to have any signs of life. But The Dead Pool is fairly inspired, even playful--check out a "chase" scene between Clint Eastwood's Harry Callahan character and a remote-controlled toy car wielding a bomb--and it ended the long-running series on an unexpectedly positive note. This time, Callahan investigates a series of murders that appears to be on a "death list," while becoming romantically involved with a television reporter (Patricia Clarkson). Jim Carrey has a small but memorable part as a doped-up rock star, and Liam Neeson is on board, too. IT is directed by Eastwood-surrogate Buddy Van Horn (Any Which Way You Can). --Tom Keogh

The Dirty Harry series had always been subject to the law of diminishing returns, and this final instalment sets a new low. By now the character of Harry Callaghan has been shorn of any of the interesting morality issues of the original film and is just another tough cop. What makes this film so dispiriting is that buried within it is the seed of a good idea: a group of rich people betting on which celebrity will die next, with Harry himself being added to the list. Unfortunately this aspect turns out to be almost irrelevant to the plot of the film, with the dire script missing every opportunity to wring some drama out of the storyline, with a dull and uninteresting typical mad serial killer turning out to be the bad guy. Numerous cringe inducing moments pepper the film: Clint's sidekick turning out to be a kung-fu expert; Clint stepping out of the fog in slow-mo armed with a bazooka-sized harpoon-gun; Liam Neeson as the worlds least convincing horror-film director (currently making 'Hotel Satan') and the series low-point of Jim Carrey gurning and miming along to Guns N' Roses. Along the way only the most bizarre car chase ever filmed (Clint's car being chased by a bomb-laden radio-controlled toy car) provides some momentary distraction, but shackled to the dire script this film is dead on arrival.

This film falls into the worn out situation of being a quick money spinning sequel, living off of the success of its predessesors, (Jaws, Planet of the Apes, Lethal Weapon etc.)However this time it just leaves us feeling embarassed.
Clint, you were too old, your plotline was feeble. (Have we not had the giggling psycho in the first 'Dirty Harry' film? And could that ever be bettered?)
The action was very lame, Im sorry but a toy car cannot keep up with a real car. Keep it believable and you may win more fans.
The film also suffers with an attempt at Harrys classic one liners which were so successful in the earlier films. With this one they just fall way to short simply because Clint was trying to hard.
The series in my opinion went down hill as they were made,the first being the very best, the last being a poor excuse.
Not even for very keen Clint Eastwood fans, I am one and I do'nt own it.

After a short break, Dirty Harry is back, bigger and dirtier than ever. The Dead Pool, not only has the privilege of being part of the best crime series ever, but also is a classic in its own right. This film sees Harry battle a new menace - technology. An unlikely story line, it works. We see Harry become a target once again in this final instalment of the Dirty Harry saga.

Okay, this is a movie that's not too special. Some good gunfights, a nice bit with a harpoon, a quick cameo from a few of Guns n Roses. Not one of Clint's best.
