Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Featuring extra keys, buttons and gadgets the Microsoft Office Keyboard offers more than most other keyboards on the market. PC keyboards haven't changed much over the years, apart from the addition of the Windows key and a few extra application buttons most keyboards all look and work the same. In an attempt to try and change the way people use their keyboards, Microsoft has designed one with its Office programs in mind.

As with previous Microsoft keyboards you have the usual set of extra buttons along the top of the keyboard to quickly launch e-mail, Web browsers and other applications, but what's really new is that a wheel for scrolling documents and an extra set of controls have been added to the left-hand side of the keyboard, providing single click cut, copy and paste buttons, as well as forward and back browse keys. Secondly, Microsoft has added standardised Office shortcuts to all of the function keys and tied all of this to the software that works the keyboard. On top of all this the numeric keypad area has been redesigned somewhat and provides new undo and redo keys.

So is the office keyboard for you? All these extra keys are nice, but if you never actually use them there's not much point... Experienced users who know existing keyboard shortcuts will probably never use the extra keys offered by the keyboard, and in fact could find them a hindrance; plus the wheel extension makes this a very large keyboard. However, if you're a new or novice user the new keys could be a real benefit as they provide obvious shortcuts to often-used Office functions. Plus the quality of the keyboard is excellent, but it could be you'd find the Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro offers everything you need at a lower price. --Nick Baxter

5.0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Office Keyboard - The BEST ever!!!, 5 Oct 2002
By Daniel James (Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Well done Microsoft. This is the best keyboard I have ever used. The keys are comfortable to type with, the hotkeys are spot on. This keyboard is for someone who uses Microsoft Office and the internet a lot. If the hotkeys are not to your liking, you can change their function at a click of a mouse.

Beware, the keyboard is about 52cm x 26cm so check the size of your keyboard drawer before purchase. I couldn't find the size specs anywhere on the net!

5.0 out of 5 stars Office Keyboard Gets All Fingers & Thumbs Up !, 15 Mar 2002
This is best keyboard I have ever used. Even if you don't like typing, it's packed with short cuts which make the keyboard worthy of it's space. Starting with the features on the left hand side, there are short cut navigation keys to switch between your programs, go back & forth on web pages and explorer, scroll up and down lists and documents (with an amazing roller!), and also extremely handy cut-copy-paste buttons. That's just the left hand side! All of the usual function keys double up as office short cut keys such as open, save, print, undo and others. (It's pre Office XP compatible by the way too). However, to get the function keys to function normally, you have to ensure you select the "F Lock" key first. I am now used to this but you could find it an annoyance to begin with. The home / end / delete key arrangement has also slightly changed but again, I feel you can adapt quickly to this. Lastly, the extra row of buttons along the top of the keyboard provides another load of short cuts from Office Word, Internet, Email, to Volume Control, Log Off and Sleep. I think everyone will enjoy using this keyboard and if you're an office based person inparticular, interaction with office and general windows programs will become a breese. Good job Microsoft!

4.0 out of 5 stars Speed up Office XP, 23 Sep 2001
By A J Foster (Bedford) - See all my reviews
The keyboard software is quick and easy to install and does not require rebooting the PC to start using the keyboard.

Having used the Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard for three years the Office one seems very small in comparison!

However, this is a minor issue and is more than made up for by the vast array of short cuts that are directly available from the keyboard. The ability to reprogram buttons to match your own preferences is also a plus point.

My particular favourite is the Mute button that instantly silences your MP3's when your boss calls!

Well designed, easy to use, its a winner!
