Essential Iphigenia. Mozarteum has a thrilling musicality. S. Graham and T. Hampson, a dream team, are at the top of their art, vocally and dramatically. They come booming in as tormented, moving Iphigenia and Oreste, and give the deepest humanity to this opera. Both artists adding to the warm splendour of the voice an all round clarity of diction. Ideal recording for Gluck lovers as well as perfect opportunity to discover that his operas are not such dull and dusty old things heard through too many interpretations.
