Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The race between the slow but steady tortoise and the fast know-it-all hare has been repeated countless times over the generations. But this CD-ROM version from Living Books succeeds in giving the classic fable plenty of new comic twists.

The fable is entertainingly introduced by an animated tortoise who is abruptly interrupted by the hare who skids up to him and then races away leaving a trail of smoke. The illustrations are good throughout and the sound effects are impressive. While the story is told, words are highlighted so young children can easily follow them. The best part are the in-story games which help bring the fable to life. When you click on the tortoise's post box, for example, it starts to snore loudly, and the hare's post box immediately shouts at it and throws a letter to wake it up.

The Tortoise and the Hare is one of the titles in this triple-CD-ROM pack which also includes Little Monster at School andHarry and the Haunted House. Young readers can step into the little monster's world and click on drawings in his room to watch them dance, or click on individual words to have them read out aloud. Trouble starts in Harry and the Haunted House when Harry D Rabbit hits the ball into a spooky building. When you click on the house scary-looking clouds appear as an omen of things to come.

All these titles are aimed at children aged three and above. Any one of them is likely to keep youngsters fully occupied for hours. --Justin Hunt

Manufacturer's Description

Little Monster at School
Even little monsters have to go to school, you know. And while they really break-time, it's fun to learn about new things, too - like letters, numbers, science, even the importance of friendships. It's enough to make school seem almost fun.

The Tortoise and the Hare
From start to finish, there are dozens of hilarious new twists, so the familiar take is fresh, enchanting and full of surprises. Can our slow and steady hero, the Tortoise, win the race, or will all the hilarious surprises and distractions prove too much for him.

Harry and The Haunted House
When Harry D. Rabbit hits one of Earl's famous curve balls right over Stinky's head, it lands in the spooky old house next to the park. Harry and his friends cautiously explore the house searching for their ball, and have lots of hair-raising experiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept my three year happy for hours, 30 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Having experienced the previous living book title, Dr Seuss ABC, we expected the triple pack to keep out three year entralled for hours, it actual kept him occupied for days. The excellent narrative and structure of the software package make this one of the best children titles available. The living books triple pack consists of three differant stories on each CD, each page narrated with interactive elements, aiding vocabulary and Word recognation. Each of the stories kept our 3 year old riveted to the screen, a perfect virtual page turner, well read. Once the stories were completed, my child found the interactive element to be an excellent learning experience. He found the abilty to explore and discover new secrets on each page of every story an excellant reading aid. Of the 3 stories we found Harry's Haunted House to be most exciting, maybe a little scary at first, but an great spooky story for young children. The tortoise and the hare great interactively and Little Monster, a visual treat. Overall an excellant, value for money package for young children, can't wait for the next in the series.
