Product Description

Jason returns to the screen one last time in this terrifying finale to the hugely successful 'Friday the 13th' series. Creighton Duke (Steven Williams) hunts serial killers for a living, and over the years he has become intimately acquainted with the Jason Voorhees case. He has studied the evidence in detail, and after a great deal of thought, believes he has come to understand the dark motivations of Jason's unparalleled reign of terror. But now Creighton must put his knowledge into practice; he must confront the dread maniac, and send him back to the fiery hell from whence he came.

I saw this a few years ago and the other week i saw it on sale on DVD and couldn't resist.
The Story : The FBI set up an ambush in an attempt to finally kill Jason Voorhees. After his dismembered body is sent for an autopsy a series of "Jason Style" murders start to happen. Enter Bounty Hunter 'Creighton Duke'. He is the only one who knows how to stop Jason forever (maybe he could does us a favour and go after Freddy next!).
A lot of people didn't like the fact that the true Jason only appears for about 15 minutes in this film (he has the abillity to switch bodies). I think this idea was good as it gave it a bit of a different feel to it, not just another generic slasher.
The Blood and Gore: The film is filled with the red stuff. The UK DVD is the full uncut version, unlike the Region 1, R - Rated American Version. The sex scene is longer and more graphic and all of the death scenes have been extended in some way (check out the girl in the text - the blood flows freely!)
The DVD: This contains the Fullscreen (4:3) version of the film which isn't too bad, but a widescreen version would have been better.
The Extras: There are only 2 extras: Jason Goes To Hell USA Theatrical trailer which is o.k. but nothing special, and then "Slash and Burn" which is a brief history of the Friday The 13th series.
All In All : Forthe price you really cannot beat this DVD, perfect horror at a decent price.

REVIEWED VERSION: 2001 Fox/Pathe UK DVD

Director: Adam Marcus

Cast: John D. LeMay, Kari Keegan, Steven Williams, Steven Culp, Kane Hodder, Erin Gray, Richard Gant

SYNOPSIS

Jason Voorhees is back! This time as some sort of worm that is puked into some other person's mouth and claims possession over this person's body, thus going on another killing spree. His goal: finding a blood relative to be reborn.
No that was no joke. Yes, it is THAT stupid of a story.

THE PROS & CONS

The ONLY good thing about this movie are the numerous gore scenes. Thankfully the Unrated version is available, although many DVD newer releases went back to the censored R rated print (seriously, what the hell, people?!), but the unrated version has plenty of really good gore scenes, if you can sit through the story.
O yeah, and Kane Hodder is in it a wee bit as corporeal Jason in the beginning and at the end. If you read my synopsis you will understand why Hodder has very limited screen time.
The story is so incredibly stupid, it took 4 people to conceive this brain fart, including the movie's director Adam Marcus.
Add a lot of bad acting and some stylized and not too bad directing effort wasted on this film and you got a horrible incoherent mess that is the 9th part of the long-lived FRIDAY THE 13TH series.
Like I said the only thing watchable about this is the gore, but do you really wanna sit through 90 minutes of utter boredom for a few seconds of blood and gore? There's plenty of far better slashers out there that are actually watchable, I advise getting them instead.
A note on this DVD: it stinks! The picture and sound quality are atrocious, and the picture is in non-anamorphic 1.33:1.

Oh boy. I have no idea what the makers of this Jason flick were thinking when they wrote this stinker. You know, there are certain things you have to put aside when you view a Jason movie. I know this, and most of all, the fans know this. You have to forget about great acting, the brilliant storyline and so on. That's all fine with me. When I see a Jason flick, I only want to be entertained. I want to see Jason keeping the body-count rising and rising.
But "Jason Goes to Hell" is a complete embarrassment. It is almost impossible to watch. Is it because of the gore? Well, there's a lot of it, but no. Gore is what I expect. Is it because it's scary? Most certainly not. Nothing very scary about this movie. So why is it almost impossible to watch?
It was terribly written. That's right. Of course I'm not expecting Arthur Miller when I watch a "Friday the 13th" movie, but I expect the story to be somewhat bearable. Supposedly Jason has the ability to transport from different bodies. Once he's done with one, his spirit invades another. He must do this until he can find a blood-relative of some sort to be "re-born." What does this mean? Means that you hardly see the hockey-masked killer until the last half of the movie. And even then it's not that great. While there's some cool death scenes and extremely gory scenes, this movie ends up being a dud. Actually, calling it a "dud" is being too polite.
It's simple. All they needed to do was have some kind of minor story going on that would lead to Jason coming back from the grave and unleashing his bloody revenge upon carefree teens who think Crystal Lake is a safe place to venture. See, very simple. But no, they had to create an outrageous story that really kind of takes the focus away from Jason himself.

Part 9 effectively without the title, takes the F13 franchise in a completely different direction. Forget Part 8 and Jason in Manhattan. Jason is back in Crystal Lake and is about to get ambushed. Once he gets blown to bits- all evil Jason can do now is transfer his soul into countless different people, possess them until they die and move on. The plot has been stolen from the excellent sleeper hit, 1987's The Hidden.

Part 9 feels different from the rest, very different and the makers should get a lot of credit here. First up the movie has adults and less teenagers, and the adults actually think for themselves. The residents know about Jason and are more ready for him. There's a bounty hunter after Jason and we are introduced to Jason's sister. Much to gauge on for the Jason fan.

The movie has some outstanding kills and of course has Kane Hodder, appearing here for a record third time.

Traditionally F13 fans don't like this movie because Jason with hockey mask is hardly in it. But the film does feel fresh for it. Certainly not a great movie, but considering we are now up to Part 9, it isn't a complete failure.
