5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 24 Feb 2002
The best album I've heard all year. I really brings me back to the old days, when we still had proper singers.
The arrangement of tracks is sublime, running easily from one to another, making it feel like a live set piece.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, 31 Mar 2005
By A Customer
Mediocre, whilst most of the recordings are of an enjoyable quality, others are not so fortunate. Sometimes sounding like the mike was placed at the back of the auditorium or recorded from a radio speaker in someone's front room.

My final judgement. Ok for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars The beginning of a revolution, 9 Mar 2004
If you look to some of these songs you will learn how popular music began today mainly thanks to the likes of Al Jolson's 'Swanee' or Bobby Darrin unforgettable performance of Mack The Knife in 1958. Of Course Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Frankie Laine (who still holds the longest period at number one in 1953 with I Believe 18 weeks).
I could go on but for all reading this column out there and those like me over 50 sit back, listen through this album and enjoy a variety of styles and sounds eloquently placed together influencing not only popular music but providing a unique insight into how our parents became so arched into ever changing times.
Superb experience and a recording you can truly pass on to your kids or grandchildren. A true classic and certainly one of the most important albums I have heard for years in retrospect for the world of song.
