Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
The old saying goes that if you pretend to be something long enough, you'll eventually become it. If this is true, then the men of the Faint must have spent a lot of time between their rocking debut album, Media, and their third full-length, Danse Macabre, practicing their Duran Duran, Cure and Depeche Mode impressions. In the process, they have become all that is, was and probably ever shall be good about new wave music, combining arty electronics with smart social commentary to create an album that is sublime in its ability to recall more goth-rock times while still coming across as entirely original. Songs such as "Posed to Death" and "The Conductor" take on sounds of the band's contemporaries--in these cases, Marilyn Manson and Daft Punk, respectively--but their doing so seems rooted in clever reclamation of new wave sounds appropriated by current artists. In making angular, passionate and hypnotic music, the Faint are not out to give a history lesson but rather to move a languorous generation of indie kids. And whether mentally or physically or both, Danse Macabre will do just that. --Sarah A Sternau

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh interesting synthpop, 2 Jan 2003
Saddle Creek's The Faint have undergone a number of changes since their conception, but their latest album Danse Macabre is possibly their best to date.

Focussing less on guitar, and produced with a more 'dancey' feel, this album mixes genres, but delivers the now extraordinarily unique and recognisable Faint sound. Conjuring up images of murder, death and betrayal, the songs tread into 'Joy Division' territory, with brilliant thought-provoking lyrics. However, the ability of the songs to get you dancing is what really makes the difference. Armed with piercing analogue synthesizer sounds and the Transformers-esque vocals, this is a band that really should be a lot bigger than they actually are.

Standout tracks are - Glass Danse, The Conductor, and Agenda Suicide.

Also, if you get a chance to see them live, I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Danse and danse and danse, 5 Oct 2005
This review is from: Danse Macabre (Audio CD)
Danse Macabre marked a new era in The Faint's history - it's loud, it's fast, it's new wave, it's punk, it's dance, but above all it's The Faint. Very few bands have managed to combine the power of punk with the power of dance and mix it with adrenalin. Danse Macabre does not promise anything, nor does it try to be something it isn't, it just delivers pure original music - make as many comparisons as you will, and still Danse Macabre manages to stand out on its own as an instant classic with a very individual no-nonsense style. Just like its follow-up Wet from Birth, this is an album you won't get bored easily. Highly highly recommended for open-minded people...

4.0 out of 5 stars Mid West Kraftwerk meets the Noughties!!!, 29 Jan 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Danse Macabre (Audio CD)
Hailing from deepest Mid-West USA, The Faint are the latest in a long line of great US bands in the Noughties.
Whilst using guitars this is a sparse, synthesizer dominated album, harsh almost industrial touches and treatment-drenched vocals.
Influences are early Depeche Mode,DAF and some Kraftwerkian touches.
The themes are downbeat and dark but the quality over nine tracks is high. Probably not commercial enough to get the same exposure as Interpol,BRMC or The Strokes, but these Nebraskans could be huge in the future though..watch that name!!!!!!
