Product Description

Amazon.co.u Review
Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA's sophomore solo project comes with high expectations. Unfortunately, there's much on Digital Bullet to suggest that the RZA's beat-making skills need to be resurrected. The largely sample-based vocal loops employed on "Can't Loose" and spontaneous tempo changes on "Brooklyn Babies" hint at the full brilliance once illustrated by one of hip-hop's most avant-garde producers. Similarly, "Must Be Bobby" boasts some of the off-kilter keyboard sounds that have become a trademark of his productions. However, long gone are the experimental beats and rhymes first heard on Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Instead, one is left with confusing tracks in which barely decipherable rapid-fire rhymes about bedding women and shooting guns are strung together. "Black Widow Pt 2" is another one of those mediocre and offensive songs where lyrical loose cannon Ol' Dirty Bastard utters juvenile profanities. While "Show You Love" is a timely ode to the full range of Wu diehards, Bobby Digital's sexcapade rhymes square off one too many times against his 5% Nation of Islam musings. Doesn't one style completely undermine the other? Well, "Build Strong" kind of sums up why RZA's once dominant career is spiralling downwards when he raps that he's "physically enslaved by the luxuries of this world/ So I behave like a man inside the grave, who's life is lost." --Dalton Higgins

5.0 out of 5 stars Rza returns to form with his excentric alter ego Bob Digi, 23 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Bullet (Audio CD)
From the opening moments - a skit which is actually bareable - to the last track, Rza really comes up with the goods. There are some classic Wu style tracks such as Glocko Pop & Must be Bobby along side the now regular appearance of Jr Reid and some more experimental tracks like The Rhumba.

Dometic Violence part two is nowhere near as satirical as the first version and the appearance of Black Knights on one of the later tracks is a bit of a let down. Other guests such as Jamie Summers liven up the record in other places.

All in all this album is a return to form and certainly make up for Cappadonna's recent release which was so bad I took it back! If your a Wu fan its a must, if you're a Hip Hop fan then its a shining example of a solid record in the genre, and if you're not a hip hop fan then this release may convert you, go on give it a try!

4.0 out of 5 stars I cant beleive people slag this guy off!, 12 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Bullet (Audio CD)
IN STEREO was a stroke of minor genius, yet it was abandoned by most wu-fans as a failure! With its release it was as if he was daring critics to attempt to define his style. In Bobby Digital RZA has created character that is both entertaining and completely independant. He has given himself a license to experiment and the results are pleasing. People recognise and appreciate Rakeem's trademark minimalistic beats, but some pass of his lyrical flow as off time and his rhymes as meaningless. However, i feel that these people are greatly mistaken. There is something very endearing about the way RZA slurs his words over his own sparse beats (with BONG BONG being his sparsest yet). And from listening to his lyrics on A BETTER TOMORROW on WU TANG FOREVER and BUILD STRONG on this endevour one could hardly describe them as meaningless, given he occasionally seems trapped in his own bizarre, self-created world, this is nothing short of different. RZA has dared to be different and i feel he is a better artist for it. I am glad poor sales from his first album as Bobby Digital did not encourage Prince Rakeem to abandon the project, and although this may not be quite as inspired as the first Bobby Digital LP it is still a must for any hiphop fan who can appreciate his genius.

3.0 out of 5 stars This could have been a stunning album..., 9 Jun 2002
By S. JENKIN (LONDON United Kingdom) - See all my reviews

...if the tracks weren't tamed-out remixes of the class songs that I have on mp3; especially Domestic Violence and Can't Lose - seemingly just 5 second cuts put on loop over and over (and over). Also Beretta 9 and the other background artists are weak on this album and hinder it rather than improve it. Rza lacks any substance in his lyrics (incase you don't know this); they are simply empty metaphors which occasionally rhyme, and sound sweet coming from a shoalin cat like himself, but still they mean absolutely nothing. Glocko Pop and Must Be Bobby are top notch with some sweet beats as the cake and Rza's rhymes as the icing, the rest of the tracks are all just eggs, flour and icing mix, and aren't worth your hard earned cash. Rza is still a hero in my eyes though, as he represents everything that is good about bad hip-hop: even though his lyrics have no content (like 95% of the rappers out there) he keeps composure and continues to pump out hot beats, and although very inconsistent (as on this CD), he is one of the top acts out there. Check out Talib Kweli and Dj Hi-Tek if you are looking for consistency, hot beats and lyrics with a message / Buy this album if you have listened to lots of Rza before and you are adding this to a collection.
