This CD-ROM is designed to help 7-11 year olds with Key Stage Two work, particularly in Maths, Geography, Physics, Biology and Computing. It enables children of this age to use simple spreadsheets, and then to move on to more advanced ones--it can be set at four different levels of expertise. It also helps to children to become more familiar with certain aspects of mathematics, covering such concepts as average, maximum and minimum. The quality of the programme is excellent but the instructions are less so.
If it were used by a teacher in school or if children were introduced to the programme by an adult who had grappled with it first (which might take some time, depending on how used to such things the adult happened to be), it should prove both useful and stimulating. With this programme children can put together, analyse and display information in very professional ways, including colourful graphs and charts, and visually simpler, but very grown-up looking spreadsheets. The drawback is that a less "tech-friendly" child might become confused and discouraged on first using this product, especially one who tried it out unaided. Once children are used to the product, they should find it satisfying and interesting.
