5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting, idiosyncratic approach, 17 Jul 2006
By Chris (London) - See all my reviews
The violin technique of Fabio Biondi is superb. The interpretation is powerful, emotional, occasionally raw...even brutal, but always exciting. If you want a novel and arresting interpretation of these pieces here it is. You'll either love it or hate it...I love it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unique, challenging; but worth the effort, 9 Jul 2006
By S. Ridley (Cheltenham, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My initial reaction to this was suprise, caused mainly by the intensity of the playing. If want you want is polite, back ground classic FM Vivaldi this is not for you.

This recording takes Vivaldi, so often seen as "easy listening" and throws it back at you with verve and vitrol. A majority of the performances push the boundries of dynamics, tempo and passion: occaionally a bit too far. Some of the emotion in the wonderful lyrical sections of "spring" is lost a little, but this is far more than compensated for by the last movement of summer, played with passion and verve. The concertos are again played with power and emotion, at times becoming a little overwrought, but none the less enjoyable.

I would throughly recommend this recording. To those who don't know Vivaldi because it will provide a good starting point, if only because of the wide range of music on the CD. To those who do because it will cause you to really listen (I mean listen not hear) This is not Vivaldi for dinner parties - this is vivaldi performed with passion and understanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars an excellent set, 11 April 2009
This is an excellent set. The performances are "authentic" and that seems to have turned one reviewer against it. He prefers and recommends the sort of upholstered Vivaldi that is ultimately dull even if it does allow for great musicians the chance to show what they can do. But this set is not only authentic. It is played with panache and style, risks are taken ... so that authentic is probably the last word to use for it.
