Amazon.co.uk Review
The best extreme-sports game gets even better in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. The elements that made the last two games a success are back: tight controls, a deep trick system, a wide selection of skaters (including Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, Rodney Mullen, Chad Muska and Elissa Steamer) and a slick soundtrack (featuring the Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Motorhead, KRS-One, Redman, and more). Adding to the already brilliant formula is a new trick, updated graphics and Internet/LAN play.

In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, players were introduced to the manual--a move that greatly revolutionisd the series' gameplay. This instalment introduces the revert, and while it isn't as significant an addition as the manual, it does add another layer to the already deep trick system. The game features solid graphics but a level of detail was sacrificed in order to make the game's levels so large. There are a few moments of frame skipping and polygon clipping, but these instances are rare and don't overshadow the stellar gameplay.

Career mode is as deep as ever, with eight objective-filled levels. In this single-player mode players traverse their way through some" find hidden videotapes and interact with level-specific objects. Two players can participate in the five multiplayer mini-games, which include "king of the hill", "horse" and "trick attack". In a PS2 first, up to four players can join Internet or LAN games through the use of the PS2 Network Adapter (to be released in the UK after the game) or a USB Ethernet adapter or USB modem; the connection is made through your own Internet service provider ("a wide range" of ISPs are supported, though at time of writing AOL isn't one of them) so calls are charged at your usual rate.

On its own, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is a top-shelf title, but with its Internet capabilities there's no reason for fans of sports, action and platform games not to have this title. This game will satisfy them all. --Raymond M Padilla

Product Description
Tony Hawk brings you into his world yet again in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, with all-new features that'll have you shredding even more cement. Skate all new global locations--Paris, Tokyo, L.A., and Canada. Test your skills in 10 massive real-world levels. Perform hundreds of the raddest tricks and combos in obstacle-filled locations with cars that honk at skaters or slam on their brakes as you board past them.

Again, you can ride using the signature moves of Tony Hawk or any of the 11 pro skaters included in this release (it also includes Bam Margera of MTV fame). Or you can use the enhanced create-a-skater editor to choose female or kid skaters and select a varying range of features, such as hair, glasses, and tattoos, to customise their look. A variety of modes let you stick lip tricks, combos, nollies, and manuals, as well as shred like there's no tomorrow.

All-new goals and rewards promise to challenge you even more than in earlier games. The upgraded career mode, for instance, gives players more character-specific goals. Special effects include sparks, blood, real-time weather, and natural disasters. And for the ultimate, expanded multiplayer modes and a skate park editor deliver increased replayability.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic, 17 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This game, for me, is the first landmark title for the PS2, we have been waiting for so long for a real quality game to come from the PS2, and now its come.

The games graphics are exellent, with a definate improvment on the PS1, dreamcast or N64 Versions of Older Tony Hawk Titles. The graphics are super crisp, with the attention to detail exellent.

One major difference in this version is the revert. You can just press R2 to revert at the end of tricks to combine them together, making more points, manual up the half pipe, and bobs your uncle, 500,000 points with a bit of training.

All the worlds best skaters are included again, with the notable inclusion of MTV Jackass star 'Bam Margera' he may suck on this game, but its pretty fun to play as him, his special move is called 'the jackass', where he goes up and headbutts the board. There are some cool cheats aswell, like, darth maul from star wars, or wolverine from X-Men. Darth maul even skates with a lightsaber!

The levels are fantastic too, with massive free roaming levels to test your tricks on, or try out the fantastic career mode.

Overall, i would call this game 'my fave of 2001', so you heard me, GO OUT AND BUY IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tony Hawk kickflips his way onto the PS2!, 2 Dec 2001
If you had had Tony Hawk 1, and if youve had Tony Hawks 2, then you have seen nothing yet, wait until you get hold of Tony Hawks 3! It has so much to do, tons of new skaters, you can create your very own skater too!
Well, i suppose you want to know, 'where can I skate?'. Well, there are tons of real locations on the games with the gnarliest half-pipes and ramps, oh, but thats not all, you can choose to go urban and take you board to the streets where its like everyday life, pedestrians, cars, light changes, car crashes and even natural disasters!!!
There are also tons of new moves along side all the new features. I gave it a 4/5 cos' I think it could be improved, the graphics could be picked up a little better, but all in all, its a great game....get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars THPS3 also a hit with the female species, 14 Jan 2002
By Stephanie (Manchester) - See all my reviews
After long anticipation the arrival of THPS3 did not disappoint. If you liked THPS2, or even THPS1 but always thought: this is not the button I pressed, and why can't I do these manuals..I am pressing up/down, then hurray....you will finally be able to become a Tony-God[dess]. With manuals actually working when you press up/down, and the new reverts you can now tie so many tricks in, you will get those SICK scores in no time. With the new introduced balance meter for manuals, rail and lip balance, you are more in control of the game than ever before. But beware....if you think you can put it down after playing for one hour you are greatly mistaken, as the smoothness of the play is not the only thing that has increased...so has the level of addiction. Favourite extra characters are making a come-back, such as private Carrera and Officer Dick. In the Spiderman line of THPS2, you will now get Wolverine!! And wait...a new demoness whose special trick can "make you disappear under your board".....but you will need to 100% teh game with a few characters before you can get this one!Create a skater now finally has a female option, which will please men as much as women. All in all, a must have that will make you lock yourself in your room for weeks....go on...you know you need it....
