Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

It's got the music. It's got the format. It's even got the ice-cold host herself, Anne Robinson. But surprisingly, what Activision's PC game of The Weakest Link also has is plenty of entertainment value.

Based on the hit BBC quiz show, the game closely mirrors its format, as players answer questions, bank money and at the end of each round, vote off the weakest player. You answer questions by selecting the appropriate multiple-choice response (and only the initials of the various options are revealed at first to make it a bit tougher), and naturally enough aim to win as much virtual cash as possible.

It's good fun too, moving on at a fair pace, albeit interspersed by some overly-laborious cut scenes and scripted responses that become tiring very quickly. Due to the huge number of questions in the game--over 100,000--you're also left with Anne asking things such as "Which of these is the correct answer?", rather than the more personal touch of Eidos' Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.

Yet this is still undeniably strong entertainment, with some interesting options to help prolong the game's life. Oh, and multiplayer (with up to seven players supported) is a hoot. Which all means that if you're looking for a new game for the family to play, this is a stronger title than you might expect. Just don't let Anne scare you off... --Simon Brew

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete Nonsense, 17 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This games' multiplayer mode is a disgrace. I believe this game should have been designed with multiplayer in mind because, unlike "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", this game is meant to be played with you as part of a team; and it would have been better to play with real people as opposed to the games' AI.

There is no LAN or online functionality at all. While there can be up to seven players playing the game, you all have to crowd around the one keyboard and monitor to play. That means you'll likely see who's voting who off (especially if you just have one person controlling the keyboard - it's not feasible to "pass it around"), unless you repeatedly "look away".

For 100,000 questions, Anne doesn't half repeat herself. The standard characters which you have to choose from are stereotypical morons and if I see Anne sharply throw her head to each side, when saying "Weakest Link", again I'll smash the monitor. This game truly IS the weakest link. It gets one star for it's realism though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, but..., 12 Nov 2001
By A Customer
After Weakest Link took off, it was of course only a matter of time before the game came along.

The game is reasonably well implemented, except of course for everyone having to use the same keyboard.

Unfortunately, the actors are just lame and the scripting even worse 'I am aware of what this one may be' etc. etc. Anne is just usual Anne, but unfortunately suffers from a lack of footage and she soon becomes rather repetitive. It would've been better to use actual clips of contestants from the show (and it surely would've cost less in royalties to pay ex-contestants than it would to pay actors) and to shoot more anne.

Apart from these niggles, gameplay is superb, the soundtrack is there in it's entirety, and if you just want to sit down and answer questions, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Family Fun, 8 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This game is a near perfect recreation of The Weakest Link TV show, and provides great fun, especially on the multiplayer option. While the sound and graphics probably won't win any awards, they are more than adequate to depict the studio suuroundings and TV style put-downs from Anne in as much detail as is really necessary.

The repetetive computer characters may be annoying to the solo player, but this game was always going to be best played in groups, where the fun comes from taking on your friends and family.

This is the only PC game that my mum and dad play with my 3 younger brothers, and is certainly the only computer game my Gran has ever played. They all love it, and that, surely, is the measure of a great game.

In summary good clean fun for all the family, especially if you are a fan of the TV show.
