Product Description

Product Description

Mega Man Legends 2 continues the successful 3-D spin-off of the 2-D Mega Man franchise. It features familiar characters from the series, and mixes action-adventure, RPG and puzzle gameplay. Accompanying Mega Man are Roll, the Bonne family, the Servbots, Data and Glyde. The story revolves around the recently discovered Sealed Key, which could unlock the Great Legacy--a mystery that could be either a boon or a curse to mankind. There are several towns to explore, and a giant airship called the Flutter will transport the party to them.

Manufacturer's Description

Mega Man Legends 2 begins shortly after the story of Mega Man Legends ends. Far in the future when most of the continents on the earth have sunk into the sea, a unique civilization is formed on a small patch of land that remains. The people's lives are sustained by explorers called "diggers" who dig ancient ruins to collect energy sources called Refractors, a substance this world can not live without. In Mega Man Legends 2, Mega Man and friend Roll, are Refractor diggers. They travel the world in search of the "Great Legacy," a dream many diggers share, but nobody really knows much about. Verner Von Bluecher, an entrepreneur, preaches the theory most widely believed: that this new energy with will provide infinite power and will eventually replace Refractor. It is Von Bluecher's wish to travel to the "Forbidden Place" in a huge airship where it is rumored the Great Legacy exists. As he starts to set sail, a mysterious woman appears and the adventure in Mega Man Legends 2 begins.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Superior Sequel, 4 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This game follows on from Mega man`s previous 3D adventures in Mega Man Legends (called Rockman Dash in Japan) and the spinoff game The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. The new story is epic in proportions, but I dont want to spoil it for anyone, so just let me tell you that it reveals Mega man and Datas` origins and is in part told through some excellent real-time cutscenes (this is PSOne dont forget) - the intro alone is stunning. You get to meet lots of crazy people along the way like the Bonnes and their hardworking servbots, spiteful Loath birdbots, even more air-pirates and lots of freindly townsfolk - some of who might help you if you help them.

The game is in the same art style as before, which although isn`t to everones taste, I think its great! Characters and environments are pre-lit in a comic style by drawing the shadows into the textures, giving everything a bright and stylish cartoon feel. All the graphics look much better in this game, characters have more polygons and higher resolution textures (as a result they look a little older and less child like) and some of the environments are huge.

The bosses, although wonderfully original, are as huge and tough as ever. A lot of patience is needed for some of the later ones as they take a loooong time to destroy, but are always worth it as you are rewarded with a progression of the superb story. The environments are extremely varied too, from the stunning snowy wasteland at the start through burning deserts, lush plains, watery and jungly ruins.

The limited RPG elements of the game give it extra depth, but this is essentially a shoot em up adventure. Mega man can upgrade his weapons by using Rolls` help and spending the crystals he collects. Servbots send Mega Man postcards, small foxes verbally insult him, and Tron hilariously still has a crush on him. There is also a racing challenge game you can take part in, a 100 question memory quiz and more.

The only critisism I can give the game is that ingame dialogue is handled in text boxes still (would be great if it was spoken like in the cut scenes), and that a few of the reaverbots are the same as in the original game. However I think this game is great value as it will take many hours to complete and has a lot of replay value in the sub games. Its just a shame it has taken so long to make it to the UK.
