3.0 out of 5 stars Basic Lumiere, 11 Aug 2008
What seems like a really fascinating idea, ends up as a tiring documentary. There are some really good directors involved, and some good films too, and it is worth buying because you can get it really cheaply. But after watching it once i have no need to watch it again. Each individual film is interesting, the directors all have the same set of restrictions, given a Lumiere camera, and arent allowed any edits, and it can only be 1 minute long. The film also includes interviews with the directors.

Writing it down like this it seems like a winner, and i cant make out why, but it feels so underdeveloped (the film as a whole, not the individual shorts). It doesnt seem to live up to its first good idea, nor move very far past it.

Spike lee's film of his child, Jacques Rivette's film, and a film with Liam Neeson (i forget the director), stick in the mind.
