5.0 out of 5 stars Best Yoga Video I've seen (so far), 23 Jan 2002
By N. Brown (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Being a beginner Ashtanga practitioner myself and the owner of several videos on this style of yoga, I can safely say this is the best of my collection. The instructors take you through a complete work out, all the way from warm up (at the beginning) to relaxation and meditation (at the end). You have the advanced and beginner routines running side by side and you don't have Geri Haliwell interrupting the commentary :-) I have found the pace to be a little fast, but as I've mentioned earlier, I am a relative newcomer. But who knows, by using this video between my regular classes I'm hoping to be able to become pretty good soon !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An exellent yoga video, 9 Jan 2002
By Steve Bolton (LLN, Belgium) - See all my reviews
This is really a very good video of Ashtagna Vinyasa Yoga. The instructors are very pleasant, explaining well each posture. Video is suitable for all levels. If you are a beginner you can easily follow Annabelle. Intermediate and more advanced people can follow William whose workout is really exeptional. The program is divided in several sections. First William explains the phylosophy of yoga. Then comes a warm up following by Sun Salutation, Standing Postures, Sitting Postures and a little session for the very advanced ones. At the end there is a 5 minutes relaxation and meditation (which you can extend as long as you like). You can expect to sweat during the practice. I also liked a lot the music, so calm and relaxing. It is really a great yoga video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Calm and non-threatening, 17 Oct 2002
By A Customer
This is a well-filmed, calm and non-threatening adaptation of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. The presenters are unassuming and the pace is about right for beginners, improving beginners and intermediates - though there also options for very advanced practitioners. Ashtanga Yoga - and many of its proponents - can be rather threatening; they are super-fit and lithe and have fiersomely beautiful bodies, which they feel obliged to display. Although there is a valid reason for performing this type of yoga half-naked (in more advanced poses you need to use the sweat on your skin to help you, and skin to skin often helps to secure the pose), it is refreshing to see two people who clearly have super-lithe physiques very well covered in vests and baggy yoga pants. It reinforces the notion that yoga is not just showing off physical prowess and muscle definition; many other modern presentations seem to suggest that it is, even if they don't mean to.
Buy this if you've tried Ashtanga classes and felt all at sea, or if other video presentations have intimidated you. Yoga classes are vitally important for the serious student and practitioner, but home programmes are essential for allowing you to try out poses in private and consolidation of more formal learning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but definitely not for the beginner
Well structured video workout, with a very nice backdrop, however, I think there could be more explanation about the Philosophy behind Ashtanga Yoga rather than treating it just... Read more
