This is a brilliant set; all the trio's and violin and cello sonata's and a bonus tchaikovsky trio for a very low price. The set has a very raw, improvised feel, which i think is the essence of good chamber music.

The performers are of the highest quality with Baremboim, pinchas and du pre, and they have a great connection with each other, obviously as Baremboim and du pre were married.

Beethoven always sets the benchmark in all genres, and his chamber music is no exception. The only slight niggle is that the sleeve notes say almost nothing about the music, only the performers, which is a shame, but not really a big issue.

I highly recomend this set, as it has probably the best price: quality ratio of any other set on the market.

I think it would be very hard to beat this collection of the piano trios and violin, cello sonatas. The performances are superb and given the age of the recordings, the stereo sound quality is excellent. If you want to discover some of Beethoven's best chamber works, then this is the set to start you off and to keep in your collection to go back to on a regular basis, especially if you love Beethoven.
