5.0 out of 5 stars Class, 16 Aug 2001
By A Customer
Does just what it says in the title!!! From the classic rock of Rock You Like A Hurricane and Big City Nights to the fantastic ballards of Holiday and Still Loving You (Can't beat a good rock ballard)...All the greats in one place and perfect for chilling to. I got the cassette years ago abroad and wore it out! Great if you want a taste of the Scorpions (be warned though, if you listen to this, you'll be hooked!)

5.0 out of 5 stars reasons to buy this is:-, 26 Mar 2008

there are 4 good reasons to buy this c.d. above all other scorpions compilation albums! first the 2 tracks not on any other scorpions records "can't explain" and "hey you" plus the remix version of "is there anybody there?" and the full length version of "holiday" with the full outro guitar solo that was edited short on the "lovedrive" album. not only all that it's a bloody good compilation with carefully sellected tracks for any long term or new scorpions fan. so do yourself a favour and buy the bloody thing and rock like a hurricane.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best of could be better, 16 April 2006
By D. J. Milner (West Yorkshire, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
There are many and varied Scorpions compilation albums, but 'Best of Rockers n Ballads' is a reasonable place for the newcomer to gain an overview of the bands' late-Seventies to late Eighties heyday. There's the inclusion of a couple of new songs to attract the fans who otherwise might not be tempted to part with their cash, plus the added bonus of some of the old songs getting the remix treatment. Unfortunately, each of these suffer from the process; when you're familiar with a song and love it just the way it is, hearing a "new" version can be unwelcome and that's exactly the case with 'Big City Nights', 'Is There Anybody There' and most especially the superb power ballad 'Holiday', which sounds somewhat empty and has had it's wonderful guitar outro tragically mutilated.
Still, there's nothing wrong with hearing classics such as 'Rock You Like a Hurricane', 'Blackout' and the stunning 'Still Loving You' in the different context a compilation album offers and whilst the cover of The Who's 'Can't Explain' is quite appalling, new song 'Hey You' (actually remixed from a 1979 session) is perfectly decent.
I'd still recommend a newcomer to seek out a few original albums rather than take the shortcut of a compilation, but if you were going to buy a Scorpions "best of", this is better than many out there and is an official release, not a record company cash-in.
