Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

With tightened passing, more options and greater customisation, Fifa Soccer 2002 is sure to please any football fanatic this season. Following on from the hugely popular series, Fifa 2002 as before includes everything that you have come to expect from EA in a football game.

Broken down into a number of areas, you have the chance to either get stuck in with the action straight away in the form of a friendly, challenge yourself over a season, enter a knockout tournament and even tackle the World Cup.

As with previous versions of the game, the gameplay and graphics are very impressive, and this is a football game in which you have to think about your state of play rather than rushing down the left wing and popping the goal in the back of the net.

With over 16 national licensed leagues including leagues in Germany, Brazil and of course England, the game offers plenty of chance to find your favourite team, failing that you can always build your own team through the use of a player and team editor and see how they fair against the likes of Manchester United.

With more to it than just a kick around the park, this is the ideal footy game for those looking for some thought rather than pure on-the-ball action. --Jason Denwood

Product Description

FIFA Soccer is back and it's packed with features, sure to make gamers and soccer fans all over happy. With all-new "open passing," you have more control and precision than ever before. Find a breaking forward with a perfect 40-yard ball into open space, embarrass the tightest defence with cunning one-twos, or fool any keeper with deep swerving crosses. With a deeper customisation, FIFA Soccer 2002 is set to dominate the competition.

All-new tackling and referee model lets players angle and time tackles to determine success or a potential card from the referee. Cinematic cut-scenes seamlessly capture all the impact, pain, and emotion of a world-class game. Hardcore in-game animations capture the rough-and-tumble aspects of soccer with increased physical contact, giant collisions, and crunching falls. Authentic light sourcing delivers dynamic player shading and accentuated physical detail as players pass in and out of shadows.

FIFA Soccer 2002 gives players the choice of more than 75 licensed national teams and 16 licensed leagues including the English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Spanish Premier League, the French LNF, and Major League Soccer. Localised commentary is provided by legendary commentator John Motson and renowned soccer star Andy Gray.

5.0 out of 5 stars FIFA 2002 - Football Has Come Home !, 2 Nov 2001
By A Customer
When you look at the FIFA series over the last few years, they have been more of an evolution rather than a revolution.
Yes, the graphics and sound improved, the game play was tweaked every year; but you always knew what to expect. FIFA 2002 is a pleasant surprise, its now all about tactical game play, decisive quick one-twos and good approach play. With an all new passing system, and the ability to direct players ready for those 30-yard defence-splitting passes, this game has come of age. Long gone are the days of those glorious solo runs, or legging it down the wings to the corner flag and crossing the ball to the waiting striker that never missed.
It took me a while to get used to the new control system and updated game play, but believe me it's a far more rewarding game to play. Especially as you watch the back of your opponents net bulge with that sweet curling shot you just let fly.
Ultimately for me, FIFA 2002 is the football gaming revolution I have been waiting for. The game play is by far the best currently available, the graphics are indeed an improvement over its predecessors, and with neat little touches like being able to hear the players call for the ball, no stone has been left unturned when its come to updating this game.
All new football games on any platform are going to be benchmarked against this game. Simply put, JUST BUY IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fifa 2002: It's in the game!, 8 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Fifa has been a succesful football game for many years. Last years effort was no exception, though it left people wondering if ea sports were ever going to do anything about the gameplay and the unrealistic 9-0 victorys that became easy to achive. Well this year thats different and the new passing system (if you get the hang of it) is great fun and looks good to. It is also possible to curl shots, crosses and passes, which can leave you begging your family to "watch the replay". The negative points: I don't know if it is any different on other pc's but mine rarley uses the yellow card. It's either Red or just free kick. Next, same as last years game, you find that at times it plays the game too smoothly.
To end, the pc version is best place to play fifa 2002. I wouldn't reccomend that you have to get the game, but, with 1000s of licenses, there is lots to check out. Your choice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best FIFA to date, 7 Nov 2001
This is most certainly the best FIFA game to date, you have to pass the ball more, so yes it is more realistic then previous FIFA's. However I have also played ISS PRO 2. And ISS Pro 2, still blows the game away in playability.

The first major flaw with FIFA is that although the new passing system is genius, allowing you to see where your computer players are going to run and then pushing the ball towards them. But it fall shorts of expectations, due mainly to the fact the computer player doesnt follow where the line says he should, he stops and has a cup of tea or something. Because he doesnt want to chase that ball.

the 2nd flaw is the tackling aspect of the game. I find that the best way to score is to actually get tackled by the defender, then tackle the ball off of him again... leaving you with an easy one on one with the goalie.

Although dont get me wrong I love this game, but there is just something lacking to it. When you score there isnt much emotion in it. When playing ISS PRO, you have to really work the passes together and get around defenders and then when you see that all rounded off with a wonderful goal its just jumping off the chair brilliant. But with FIFA, 'specially when all you do is tackle the defender and then strike it in. I find that I am saying 'Oh look I scored... again'. But saying that the first time i struck a 30 yard freekick into the back of the net I Ran downstairs screaming.

Also their are faults in the program (hopefully EA will release a patch to fix this) but time and time again the ball will stay stationary then suddenly jump to another spot.

To summerize, A great game, one that I love, because i love FIFA games because of all the teams and the graphics, and this FIFA 2002 is by far the best and is getting to a ISS PRO 2 standard of gameplay. Buy it and enjoy the experience.
