Amazon.co.uk Review
The Sony J5 has to be one of the most lightweight, yet comfortable-to-hold phones to date. The ergonomic curved shape means it sits naturally in the hand and all the important features are readily available at your fingertips. Rather than the more traditional menu buttons on the front, the J5 uses Sony's innovative Jog Dial which is positioned at the top left of the phone, just where the tip of your index finger naturally rests. The Jog Dial enables quick scrolling through the 3D menu system, and then selection of the item you want by clicking it inward. The J5 is also WAP capable and has T9 predictive text for fast message writing and comes with five prewritten messages, plus you can send pictures and sounds to other J5 users. Other features include a clock, alarm, currency converter, calculator, calendar and SIM tool kit for access to Orange's information menus. The manner key sits below the Jog Dial and by pushing it upwards enables you to put the phone into one of four predetermined states; silent, vibrate, beep once, or ring normally. By pushing the manner key downwards, you can lock the keys, to guard against accidental calls. The J5 has a massive 500-name memory and you can choose to display one of 30 icons with each name group such as friends or family. If you want customisation, then there are 30 ring tones and melodies which can be assigned to individual names in the phonebook. The J5 comes with a personal hands-free kit, and is available on Orange's Just talk tariff. Calls are charged at 35p/min peak, 10p/min off-peak for vouchers below £50, and 25p/min peak, 5p/min off peak for the £50 vouchers. For a full breakdown of call pricing, take a look at the
