Orchard Cottage is a well-modelled small doll's house, designed to look like a rural cosy home, from the Sylvanian Families range. With two floors, the second being the bedroom tucked up in the red roof, it has a completely open back which gives it good access for small hands. The front and sides have windows, the downstairs front bay window being a working window that opens and closes. The front door is sheltered by an overhanging porch, supported by a column. It is this attention to detail which make it such a lot of fun, as well as making it a very pleasing toy in appearance. Another bonus is that it comes ready assembled, and, being moulded from plastic, it is a very hard-wearing house which is easy to clean and which will stand the test of time, no matter how rumbustious the play.
It is relatively small inside, which means that, although it is quite big enough for small hands at around 30cms high, you won't need much furniture to make it a very well-furnished home. The house itself doesn't come with any of the Sylvannian Family figurines, or furniture, nor does it require batteries. It is a perfect first doll's house which will stimulate imaginative role-play, and which is well-made and well-detailed--and it is a must for any fans of the Sylvanian characters. --Alison Jardine
