Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

New missions, new units and loads of new incentives to dust off that tired old RTS genre and get WWII on its flabby posterior! Touted as "half a sequel" (Sudden Strike 1.5), CDV Software's Sudden Strike Forever is arguably just a dose of heavy reinforcements for its WWII strategy antecedent but it does throw some nice and much needed tweaks into the bargain.

Aside from additional Russian, German and Allied missions, jingoists can enjoy a British campaign comprising three missions and, for those that want quick, hassle-free, pan-European military carnage, there are seven new single-player standalone missions.

The graphics are largely unchanged, with characteristics still looking diminutive but incredibly detailed. The skirmishes remain equally impressive and the 30 new units add to the hundreds of soldiers going at it hammer and tongs, creating heavily populated battle scenes of alarming fluidity. Vehicles and batteries are still varied and plentiful and now vehicles can reverse, shaving previously annoying moments off clumsy manoeuvres.

The real focus of improvement lies in multiplayer, however, with the addition of lobby support through Gamespy and 20 new multiplayer missions. Complementing this is the inclusion of a map and mission editor, paving the way for a plethora of new Sudden Strike communities to rear their pugnacious heads everywhere.

CDV have acted primarily on the requests of their fan base and as such you could only expect an expansion that caters to somewhat specialist needs--but that is something it has done very well. If you're a fan of the original, have an historical axe to grind or just love your strategy with scale, jackboots and hot Howitzer action, you're going to like this. --Tae Mawson

Manufacturer's Description

The first ever Sudden Strike expansion pack is here and will be here Forever.

This has been described a version 1.5 for a reason! Sudden Strike Forever now features a British Campaign (after listening to the British Public), complete with British units and troops of the time. The British campaign contains 3 missions, in addition to the 3 new missions for each of the existing Allies, Russian and German campaigns.

The emphasis is firmly on Multiplayer support with 20 new maps, and new styles of games. For those who want the quick fixes, there are also 7 new single missions to enjoy. Single player missions now include the improved gameplay features but also the ability to adjust the difficulty levels. From hard to easy, you are in total control. Coupled with the new settings of deserts, and seasons, e.g. Autumn, Sudden Strikers are in for a lengthy and exciting experience. The feature everyone has been waiting for is here, and really is the true reason behind the title, Sudden Strike Forever The Map and Mission Editor! Destined to increase the life and community vibe of Sudden Strike, expect the Sudden Strike community to explode.

With many gameplay and interface improvements this will get your Generals hat on in seconds. So prepare for a multiplayer fest, play as the British and get ready for Sudden Strike Forever The Battle Has Only Just Begun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sudden Strike Struck, 2 July 2001
By A Customer
Well there was me thinking, once upon a not so long ago when I played the first UK Demo of Sudden Strike, another war game . . . It isn't !

Not with THE added Features. 4 Campaigns with 3 missions each, now incorporating the British forces. About time to include the British Forces, never mind the extra campaigns and missions. 7 new single missions, with the ability to adjust difficulty settings. What a chance to take more than control. 20 Multiplayer missions, including the ability to adjust gameplay settings. More than 30 new units, which are very welcome to add to the variety. Never a dull moment. Multiplayer lobby support (Gamespy) A Map & Mission Editor. Now where do you get the chance to adopt and re-invent your very own favourite game. This is setting a chalenge to the Games Market on a Universal basis. The "use of binoculars for improved vision" allows me to sit back now instead of receiving screen-burn to see whats' going on. Ans at long last, "Vehicles can now drive backwards" as well. Officers increase the experience of surrounding units. Naturally Words nearly fail me to rate this game overall. Altogether, a plus in so many ways to have achived so much. Ok, I have to admit it will take time to get used to the variations, possibilities and changes. But all in all, the "gamer" has preceisely what has been awaited by so many previously left dissolusioned. This game has set a new standard in Games Software, redefining all probable boundaries. Overall rating is exceeding unspoken but many a time thought of expectations by so many.
