Guns 'n Roses have done it, Skid Row have done it and even Slayer have done it. Now it's Warrant's turn. Done what you ask? Released an album of cover versions. 'Under the Influence' features nine songs previously recorded by the likes of Aerosmith, David Bowie and AC/DC to name but a few.

Warrant have plumped for the 'straight' style of cover version, ie recorded the songs as close to the original as possible. Indeed they have done a fine job in coping the songs down to the Nth degree. Personally I would have preferred them to have used some imagination and personalise the songs a bit more, I mean 'Tie Your Mother Down' sounds just like Queen's version - right down to all the vocal fill-ins that Freddie used.

The two brand new studio tracks at the end of the CD are: 'Sub Human' and 'Face'. 'Sub Human' is a medium paced, standard run-of-the-mill rock song about a bad relationship - not overly memorable. 'Face' is a slower paced number about losing the girl, can't stop thinking about the girl - you know the one. A classic Warrant song with a chorus you'll be singing for weeks!

The cynical side of me side of me is saying that this is just a CD of popular rock songs recorded without much effort or imagination and, as an incentive to get you to part with your cash, a couple of unreleased songs which are really b-side material.

I bought this CD because I like Warrant and wanted to complete my collection. I can't think of any other reason why you'd buy it.
