Very good, hope she becomes big in the UK!, 21 Nov 2001
When I heard Hit Him Up In Style I loved it so much it was practically the only song I played on my MP3 player! Overall, this is a really good RnB album, and the good songs, well they're very good, and the others, they're pretty good too. The highlights are the amazingly adictive Hit Him Up, the in ya face Waste My Time, the brilliant, nearly-a-ballad So Blu and One. The others are examples of good RnB but the one's I metioned really grab you and swing you on to the dancefloor.

So Blu, so hot, 7 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Ohhhh, this is sooo the R&B album of the moment! If you're playing on the idea of buying it, go get it! Blu takes it back with 'proper' R&B, ballads at thier best. Sweeping beats, deep bass and so, so emotional lyrics will have you feelin this album instantly. The album consists mainly of ballads but is also laced with a couple of hot upbeat tracks, the in your face 'Waste My Time', the wonderfly funky and jazzy 'Swingin' and of course Blu's hit tune 'Hit Em Up Style (Oops)' If you need some slow cuts in your collection get this album. Blu has an amazing voice and all the jams are powerful and emotional in thier own special ways, what's even better is that none are hugely alike. One word, hot.

One In A Blu Moon, 14 Sep 2004
Once In A Blu MoonBlu Cantrell hit a record deal with major label ARISTA after she came into contact with an associate who was staying at the same hotel as her in Atlanta. Ironically what brought her to this part of town was that one of her sisters had been involved in an accident there and had been referred to hospital (fortunately she received no critical injuries). I was introduced to Blu Cantrell through "Breathe". Sure, I had heard "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)", but I never bought her album. Instead I got BitterSweet first, which was so good that I had to get her debut album too. It (also) was no let-down... Track 1 is the upbeat "Waste My Time". This is a perfect opening track. It shows off Blu's clear set of lungs and includes a guest appearance (the only one on this CD) from rapper LO. - It has a similar concept to Hit 'Em Up Style, which then follows. Of course everyone is familiar with this man-beating tune, as it was huge in 2001. "Till I'm Gone" has explosive vocals combined with very dramatic music. It was released as a promo (like "I'll Find A Way"), but Arista did wrong by her and never officially released either of them. The sassy "U Must Be Crazy" has an infectious chorus that will be stuck in your head for days on end! "The One" is Blu picturing her ideal man. Whatever happens Blu definitely deserves him, she is such an angel. I love "I'll Find A Way". It begins as quite a quiet song, but picks up as it goes on. Near the end particularly you can hear Blu's pain through that jaw-dropping voice of hers. Each song reveals part of Blu and her life... It is very intimate, I think it is great and I worship this girl for everything she has done/been through. Lightening the mood is the groovy "Swingin'". It is an entertaining club joint, with jazz influences. "10,000 Times" is another emotional slice of soul/R'n'B. It is a peaceful song but very deep. Track 9 is the reflective "When I Needed You". It is a nice-paced song with pleasant backing-vocals too. This then brings us to "All You Had To Say". It is a pretty snazzy song about a guy not doing Blu right. One of my favourites off the CD is "I Can't Believe". And I can't believe what a strong, beautiful, moving song this is! Blu is, yet again, having man problems... ironically she is the most stunning, kind-hearted women to ever grace the planet! Next up is the personal "So Blu". It is like a miniature biography of Miss Cantrell. A lot goes on in this one so make sure you listen to (or read) the lyrics carefully. Unfortunately all good things come to an end. And here is our final track "Blu Is A Mood". At first I wasn't so sure about it, it is completely different to anything I have heard before. But I guarantee this raw-soul will will get the better of you like all the other tracks! After BitterSweet (Blu's second album - which if you haven't got you must get too) this is my second favourite album of all time. Blu Cantrell is one of a kind and I wish her all the best!
