This camera is superb. It has an excellent lens without while remaining compact. It has a comprehensive set of sophisticated functions oozing out of its iris but has a quick and easy mode. The results are superb. The definition and colour tones are excellent.

One draw back is the size of the CF memory card that comes with it, 16k isnt enough. At full jpeg definition with full size pictures you will get about 16 photos max. I upgraded to 128mb cf card, no worries at all now. Another draw back is the delay between pressing the button and shot being taken, if you are trying to photo a baby, the opportunity may have been and gone before the shutter opens - but his is the case for most digital cameras. Also if you try to take shots in quick succession at high resolution, it probably wont happen because, the first shot is still downloading to memory and the susequent shot is prevented from being taken - again a digital camera phenomenon. The bundled computer software is good but doesnt allow you to communicate back to the cf card on the camera - its just one way from the camera to the computer. These are minor inconveniences more then made up for by the performance and flexibility of this camera.

Overall a great digital camera for the prosumer. If you have photoshop (it comes bundles with ps5 limited edition) and a good printer eg Epson stylus photo 895, then you will be able to print what you want how you want with a quality thats almost photorealistic.

I researched for a several weeks into digital cameras and became an anorak! This camera is just amazing, the quality of the images, the build, and the amount of functions. If like me you do not have a degree in photography, then the simple point and shoot facility is wonderful, the macro facility is also just amazing, focusing at just 1cm from the lens!! And the image is brilliant. A normal image is good for a 9x7 print and on fine mode, much higher (A4-A3), easily print/publication standard. The battery lasts about 130 shots on average. All the leads supplied, and a leather carry case, rechargable battery (and charger) etc... great package!

I am a very traditional photographer. I thought I would not succomb to the digital bug. Well I still love my Pentax Z1P and I will always want to take slides as long as slide film is available. But I bought the Nikon Coolpix 995 in January 2002 and I have used it every single day so far. It is just such a superb piece of kit, I am daily amazed again and again! I love it. I am a Primary School Governor and I now take loads of pictures in school because it so easy. But it is the sheer quality of the pictures and the ease with which the camera handles indoor light levels without flash, and in contrasty situations. I can take pictures at what, according to the camera's display is, for instance, one fifteenth of a second at f2.8 yet the result is what I would only expect from a conventional film camera on at least one sixtieth at f11. And the kids love seeing the results straight away and I love the fact that I can take a hundred pictures in a day but know I can just ditch the ones I don't want and I haven't wasted anything. It is just wonderful. Buy one. Go on, you know you want to.
