Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Although on The Big Romance Dublin's alt-folk artist David Kitt audibly upholds many of the key traditions associated with bedsit lands' introspective singer/songwriter muse (softly spoken, self-analytical, bonded brotherly to the sort of kindergarten acoustic guitar filigree's of Trumpton and Camberwick Green), he's a wild card, a textural experimentalist adding the exotic spices of electronica and self-assembly percussion to a genre which has been left to stew in it's own juices for far too long. The Big Romance, his first full-length offering, expands upon the half-sketched themes of his earlier DIY mini-album Small Moments by adding further tangential freshness. "Pale Blue Light", for example, is as contemporaneous as anything on Radiohead's Amnesiac; where layers of rainbow harmony, errant woodwind and Brian Eno synths intertwine over an awkwardly jazzy time-signature. Better still, there's the broodingly repetitious doom-rock mantra of "What I Ask", what Ian Curtis may have sounded like if he'd grown-up listing to Nick Drake rather than Iggy Pop. In his own, unarguably idiosyncratic and folk idiomatic way, David Kitt is creating music as pioneering as Bob Dylan's Blonde On Blonde. --Kevin Maidment

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical, 3 Jul 2004
I bought this album in february of 2004, it's now July 2004 and in this short space of time, the Big Romance has become one of my favourite albums of all time.
My initial impression of this CD was fairly poor, the first track (Song from Hope St.)begins with a fairly poor quality drum sound but rest-assured, this album is of the highest quality (mastered at Abbey Road!).
As a previous reviewer stated, patience is the key to loving this C.D. think of it as a wife and not a one night stand! After a few weeks of listening, you will be hard pushed to find a poor track and you'll find it even more difficult to choose a favourite - consitently brilliant. Every song on this C.D. has a really catchy melodic hook of some form, and within a few listens you'll know every lyric.
I don't really know what else to say... i would recommend this album to anyone with the same fervour and passion as i would Jeff Buckley's Grace or Damien Rice's O. I really like to see it when great talent such as Damien Rice gains the success that is deserved. DO THE SAME WITH DAVID KITT: BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-hear, 25 Mar 2003
By Caroline (UK) - See all my reviews

This album is on my all-time must-have albums, a mainstay in my cd changer. One of my hobbies is letting people listen to David Kitt and watching their reactions as they become converts, too. His music is subtly beautiful, with flashes of genius. While his style is quite folkly,it is never trite just heart-wrenching. It is for anyone who enjoys the simple pleasure of a beautiful song sang by someone with the talent to mean it. I could rhapsodize further, and cannot recommend an artist with higher praise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Patience, 13 Jan 2004
By A Customer
I read an irresistable review in a newspaper and ordered it out of curiosity. I listened a few times and thought of giving it away I was so disappointed. I bore with it and addiction set in and then I told other people about it, incessantly. Then I bought 'Small Moments' - also joy by stealth.
