Amazon.co.uk Review
PGP Personal Security is a new software bundle from McAfee that offers a wide range of security tools for the PC user, all based on PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) technology. PGP is arguably the best-known way of encrypting PC data and e-mails. Devised by Phillip Zimmerman, PGP is based on RSA technology, which uses separate "keys" to encrypt and decrypt data, the public key and the private key. It's very simple--you use the public key to encrypt but only those that you've given the private key to can decrypt it. You can use McAfee's software in several ways--to encrypt the entire contents of your hard disk or to encrypt an e-mail. PGP uses 128-bit encryption as well as digital authentication, which tracks down the origin of a message, verifying the sender's identity. It cleverly integrates with most popular e-mail clients to make the encryption/decryption process as simple as possible. You can also use it to protect your ICQ instant messages or just to encrypt a single file. If you want you can even create a self-decrypting file: the recipient doesn't need to have PGP installed in order to decrypt it. It can even encrypt network communications between different PCs on a network. Data on the Windows Clipboard can also be encrypted with just a few clicks. And as if that feature list wasn't long enough, you also get a personal firewall too. Documentation is surprisingly good--you get a 300-page printed manual (PGP is heavy-duty stuff) plus an online version. It's a sad fact but as we gradually spend more and more time online we open ourselves up to attack from without. Sooner or later we're all going to need programs like this, which offers all the industrial-grade data security you could ever want... and at less than £20, it offers great value for money. --

Manufacturer's Description
Encryption strength is determined by using "strong" cryptographic algorithms and larger encryption key lengths. The longer the key length, the greater the encryption strength. While competitors utilize weak 40-bit keys that can be broken in a matter of hours, PGP Personal Privacy utilizes military-grade encryption with a minimum key length of 128 bits, thus rendering your data unreadable by even the most sophisticated attackers.
Encrypting e-mail and files is as easy as clicking a single button. Using public/private key technology, you can instantly encrypt, sign, decrypt, or verify any file or folder. PGP Personal Privacy integrates with Windows Explorer and the System Tray, providing several ways to secure your private data. PGP also includes wizards that step you through tasks, such as creating your encryption keys and setting up secure network connections.
