Make the most of your photos without needing to be a digital expert with Photo Express; you can fix problems, add special effects or use your pictures to make calendars, cards and gifts.
The helpful interface groups tasks and features into categories, so when you click Adjust on the taskbar you get a range of options such as adjusting colours and removing red eye, depending on the kind of image you're working with, and the tools and controls for the option you pick show up in the bar at the side of the screen. The Preset mode has examples to pick from so you can get an impressive effect without delving into details but if you want more control you can work directly with settings in Advanced mode. If you're in a hurry the SmartEnhance tool automatically corrects common photo faults without you needing to choose any settings.
You can browse through your photos as thumbnails or import images directly from a scanner, digital camera or video capture. To edit a photo you work in Photo mode; to use an image in a card or calendar pick from the list of projects. Switching between the two is easy and all the photos and projects you have open appear as thumbnails in a strip along the bottom of the screen so you can drag a photo into another image and arrange them in layers, using the transparency effects to merge them together. You also get a copy of Cool 360, so you can make your photos into panoramas.
There are other photo editors with more tools and features and the controls in Photo Express aren't particularly sophisticated but they are fun, friendly and easy to use. Overall this is great tool for first-time users of digital cameras. --Mary Branscombe
