Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Most remix albums smack of weak marketing. Less about the music itself, they're often more concerned with fulfilling contractual obligations. Sadly All Back To The Mine is not an exception to the rule and represents an unnecessary pillage through Moloko's patchy back catalogue. Culled from five years' worth of archive, what you actually get are 21 mixes (10 of which have never appeared on any commercial UK format) of varying quality and style. Not all of them are worthless: there's a great, rubberised funk version of early single "Day For Night" replete with the kind of walking bassline and vocodered vocals that sounds amazingly contemporary; Swag's twitchy electro mix of "The Flipside" is cute and the glossy strings and bottom-end rumble of "Knee Deepen" work just fine. However, there's too much here that's simply dated, hollow or plain uninspiring. Of the three versions of "Time is Now", none tops the original's acoustic punch and nobody (unsurprisingly) makes a silk purse from the sow's ear that is "Indigo". Not a disaster but one for die-hard fans only. --Paul Tierney

4.0 out of 5 stars Hope they've got a decent sound system in that mine..., 4 Jul 2001
By A Customer
Being something of a die-hard Moloko fan, I would naturally find it hard not to love this album. Certainly not a patch on earlier albums, but to expect people to have that opinion often comes with the territory of releasing a remix album. All Back To The Mine is a super-long album of track after track of top remixes from some of the world's best DJ's.

Having spent most of my time since buying it yesterday listening mostly to CD1, I can only really comment on that one, but the Bambino Casino Mix of The Time Is Now is superb from CD2.

Herbet's Surround Sound Mix of The Flipside and The Todd Edwards Pleasure For Life UK Vocal Mix of Pure Pleasure Seeker outshine the other tracks on CD1, with the latter being my favourite cut from the album. Also catching my ear was the splendidly quirky Club 7 1930's Mix, which aswell as being ridiculously catchy in a warped little way, is pretty funny.

Absolutely not a disappointment, and a more than adequate stop gap until Mark & Róisin bring out the new one they're apparently working on - definitely 4/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moloko, 17 Dec 2004

This is by far one of my favourite albums. It is an album you can easily put on in the background of a cosy dinner, and also turn up the volume for the party afterwards. Excellent. If you are even a slight Moloko fan you should buy this album.
