Amazon.co.uk Review
Smash Hits magazine is of course the undisputed bible of pop, so it's no surprise to see the first disc of their latest compilation opening with S Club 7's gloriously over-the-top "Don't Stop Movin'", followed up swiftly by another slice of power pop from Uncle Ronan ("Lovin' Each Day"). It all goes a bit soppy from there on in with most of the remaining time taken up with ballads. Things do perk up a bit at the end, thanks to
Texas ("Inner Smile") and the A*Teens ("Upside Down") but for the most part this is a disc for slow snogging (or sitting in your room wishing) rather than for frantic jigging at the school disco. Disc 2 is a bit odd seeing as this is a
Smash Hits "Pop" album--consisting of 17 dance and R&B tracks with three indie numbers plonked somewhat incongruously on the end. Given that rock is in ascendance at the moment, it's a shame that the powers that be didn't add some
Papa Roach or
Limp Bizkit, which would have added a bit more oomph to the slightly lacklustre proceedings. --
