On first start-up it asks you to locate a folder that can hold what the manufacturer, Steinberg, call the "Pool" and searches for music files that are already on your computer. The Pool is a database of all the music files on your machine and this is at the heart of MyMP3's functionality. Here you can find all your files, import and create new MP3, AIFF, WAV or WMA either by downloading from the Internet or by grabbing it from audio CDs. You can also use the Pool to listen to live Internet radio, which can be recorded and it can also contact CDDB on the Internet and get all the information about the tracks and artists.
The interface is straightforward and clear with key functions easy to locate. It was very easy to put together a list of tracks and then burn a CD compilation, basically by dragging the tracks from the pool list into the play list window, arranging them in the desired order and then clicking the "burn" button. Likewise grabbing audio tracks from CDs was just as easy. Steinberg has been designing software for a not-too-techie audience for years and this means that they understand the art of making things easy to use.
People with large digital audio music collections to organise then make CDs (remember you need a CD burner to do that) will find it a useful tool because of its added functionality, which makes it win out over other free software available on the Internet, such as Real Jukebox. MyMP3 is a must for MP3 junkies! --Richard Adams
