Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Let's get the obvious point out of the way; Eurofighter Typhoon is a flight simulation, so you'll need a joystick to play it properly. The next thing to notice is the developers; Rage have bought DiD, the makers of the F22 series of classics. Since Rage specialised in slick arcade shooters until their recent Hostile Waters, it's a pleasant surprise that the gameplay hasn't been simplified to the point where it's not enjoyable.

In fact the kind of quality cutscenes seen in their previous games are used for docu-drama realism as hostilities break out and intensify across Europe with that favourite old enemy, the Russians. It comes to a head in Iceland, where your campaign takes place, and, being set in the near future, there are a few other experimental/fictional aircraft to fly as well as the computerised Eurofighter. The music is stirring and amusing at the same time, though if an action movie atmosphere's not what you're looking for, it can be muted. The trademark Rage big explosions are present and correct and you don't have a thousand key controls to plough your way through--the incentive to stay in the air comes from the fact that your pilots can be captured and interrogated when shot down by the enemy.

The game's specifications are very friendly at PII level; the quality of programming is belied by this, only requiring Direct3D for the graphics, though as usual more RAM and a newer video card will speed things along a little even if they don't look any better. Shame about the 1Gb install, which is the only real sign of a "big" game. Eurofighter Typhoon is an arcade game that works well and has been worth the wait. --Kenneth Henry

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not good enough., 12 Sep 2002

(REAL NAME)
I bought this game as it was from the same people who made the original EF2000 (for DOS)later released as super EF2000 for windows. The original was more complex than Ef Typhoon with you having to administer your own chaff and flares, you could monitor your radar signiture, you could use all in cockpit computers, view your targets, view almost anything that was around. I found with Eurofighter Typhoon that it was far more restricted, while great fun to play, and PERFECT for the rookie pilot, this game was some what lacking. Another anoying this was you cant arm your plane/s for transfering pilots, i mean, the island is under heavy attack and you are expected to fly past a formation of SU27 Flankers with, wait for it................. a cannon. The game is set in real time, which means that one minute is actual a minute, you are left watching your men (and women) sat in the canteen for hours and hours while the war rages on outside. This game distinctly reminds me of JSF (joint strike fighter) only in that game you could choose your own targets to some extent and take back airbases etc... but that game is dated. All it needs is the option to skip to next event, and for you to have a litlle more control and this sim would be perfect. As it is, it is great fun to play, with a sometimes slow running storyline (and a very busy news team capable of giving you up to date news every 5minutes literally, when a man ejects they no about it before u do)
Good game though...

5.0 out of 5 stars Eurofighter Typhoon..., 25 Jun 2001
By A Customer
I woke up one morning and siad ot myself, Iwant to buy a flying game. My shelf is full of them, but I am always hungry for more...

I had no idea what I should get, so I went to an online shop, and browesed around. Out of 5 good games I found, EuroT won it.

So I went down the shop and bought it. Spent the day in Sothend with my parents, and on the way home I read the manual. It did boast about it's dynamic campaign a bit too much tho :)

I got home, installed it, and afer about 2hrs of sorting out graphics problems, I got it going. I chose my 6 pilots (knowing they were all I was going to get). I decided on 2 air-air, 2 strike and 2 wild-weasel (supression of enemy air defence) pilots, and off I flew.

That was all 2 months ago, and now I'm quite good. I love the agility of the plane, and it's quite nippy as well. Damage wise, it could look better when your hit. I been hit my missiles god knows how many times, and the damage is always looking the same.

It all starts off with 2 training missions to get you going, then in come the Russians! Initially, you only meet light waves, maybe a few recon trawlers, a sub, some cruise missiles. But then, the EBC news tells you of an incoming invasion! You must destroy as many Russian landing vessals as possible, so later on when you are trying it beat them off the island, you get an easier time.

Overall, it is a great game, not being too heavy on the realism, but not fake either. Just how I like them. Well done Rage!

4.0 out of 5 stars Eurofighter, 5 Jun 2001

Although a little difficult to handle at the start - this is a first class flight simulation game. The introductions can be irritating but once you have got through this stage the game is well thought out and satisfying. A well worth purchase.
