On first listen Oval assault your ears with static, fizz and hums which seem ill formed and quite abstract. But given a chance their AM radio sound and modem beeps take on an apocolyptic feel which is both intense and relaxing. With no coventional structure to speak of and little in the way of beats, the music ebbs and flows giving the impression of a throbbing electrical appliance blessed with a heart. I honestly find the album refreshing but somewhat bleak, accentuating whatever my present mood happens to be. If you like a mix of Autechre, Aphex Twin, Sigur Ros but heard through a malfunctioning, fizzing radio then this is for you. If not give it a go anyway!
