Amazon.co.uk Review

The 1994 film Stargate was originally intended as the start of a franchise, but creators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin were distracted celebrating their Independence Day. Episodic TV treatment was the natural next step. In the roles of Colonel Jack O'Neill and Dr Daniel Jackson are Richard Dean Anderson and Michael Shanks. They're joined by Captain Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) and guilt-stricken former alien baddie Teal'c (Christopher Judge) to form the teacher's pet primary unit SG-1. With a seemingly endless network of Stargates found to exist on planets all across the known universe, their mission is to make first contact with as many friendly races as possible. Chasing their heels at almost every turn are the "overlord" Goa'uld--the ancient Egyptian gods who are none too chummy after the events of the original film. The welcome notion of a continued plot thread sees offshoots that follow the reincarnation of Daniel's wife, Sam's father joining a renegade faction of the Goa'uld and Jack in an unending quest to out-sarcasm everyone. There's something of The Time Tunnel to the show's premise, but amid a dearth of derivative look-alikes, Stargate has held its own with stories that put the science fiction back into TV sci-fi. --Paul Tonks

5.0 out of 5 stars Nemisis is wicked :) When is the release of dvd 14 ?, 13 Jun 2001
By A Customer
On this dvd, there are only two episodes. These episodes are also the last one of the third season.

The first episode is: Chrystal Skull. They discover a piramide and within it a huge cave with a crystal skull. Daniel recognizes this skull, because his grandfather Nick has found a simular skull in 1971 on Earth. Nick claimed that the cave was build by aliens, but nobody believed him. Daniel disappeares in front of SG1 and Jack O'Niell and his team go to Nick to ask for advice. This episode isn't full of action, but it's a good story which won't bore you.

The second episode, Nemises, is great! Jack O'Niell is kidnapped by the Asgards. Thor needs his help with the fight they have with the replicators (replicators are a kind of nasty little intelligent mechanical bugs, just think of our own bugs and then remember how hard it is to get rid of them, I think you get the point here). The special effects are great. The story is exciting, it will keep you sitting on the egde of your seat from the beginning and beyound the end of this episode.

Besides the two episode there's also a Behind the scenes called "Timeline to the future". It gives you an inside story about the characters and everbody involved in making this great series. This feature is 60 minutes long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short on episodes but big on entertainment, 27 Jun 2001
By Mr. David Spinks "gardencoaster" (Kent, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Marking the end of Season 3 of the series, this disc contains the final two episodes.

Crystal Skull becomes more remarkable when one realises it was acted out on an entirely virtual set.

Nemesis sees Jack selected for a suicide mission by ailing Asgard Thor. In this this story we see elements of many previous sf stories, so it doesn't score well for originality. The Replicators appear to be similar to the space spiders in Lost in Space, there are drippy acid scenes akin to the Alien(s) series of movies, and even 2001 looks to have been ripped off to an extent with a tense scene in space. Of course, as it is the end of the season, we have to wait for the finale.

The compensatory documentary content is excellent and really makes this disc. In three parts, the Timeline to the Future shows us more of the making of our favourite show and the people who bring it to us. If you are a gater who goes to cons, you may even see yourself on the footage of fan life.
