Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Eddy Grant's Greatest Hits follows a deliciously popular recipe--there's nothing quite like a "Greatest Hits" album with some fresh music thrown in. It could be new material or rare outtakes but included here is the smash-hit remix of "Electric Avenue", the toast of Miami 2001. Eddy has had a long, successful career and it is deserving that his latest Greatest Hits should highlight his memorable music from over three decades. Included are dancehall favourites "I Don't Wanna Dance" and "Baby Come Back" which were essentials of any 1980s disco plus the signature tunes "Gimme Hope Joanna" and the original "Electric Avenue". --Georgina Collins

5.0 out of 5 stars You will find yourself listening to this all the time, 4 Jun 2001

Every track in this is brilliant, although they are (nearly) all quite old. The remix of Electric Avenue is a lot better than the original, and you will come to love the more catchy tracks such as "Hello Africa" and "Baby come back" - they all really grow on you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TOUCH OF THE CARIBIAN IN ONE GREAT CD, 9 May 2001

IF YOU WANT REGGEA THAT MOVES YOU EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY, THEN EDDY GRANT CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH BOTH. FROM GREAT TRACKS SUCH AS "ELECTRIC AVENUE" THAT WILL TAKE YOU BACK TO YOUR YOUTHFULL TEENS,20'S, 30'S ETC.... TO "I DONT WANNA DANCE" THAT WILL GET YOU IN THE MOOD FOR A PARTY AND DANCING. SOME OF THE SONGS DO HAVE A POLITICAL THEME BUT IF YOU JUST LIKE THE SOUND OF SOME REALLY ENJOYABLE REGGEA THIS WONT MATTER ANYWAY. EDDY GRANT IS ONE OF THE ALL TIME BEST REGGEA ARTISTS UP THERE WITH THE LEGENDARY BOB MARLEY. IF YOU WANT TO BUY ONE CD THIS YEAR MAKE IT THIS ONE, YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Eighties gold, 9 Sep 2007

I don't really understand why Eddy Grant has somehow disappeared out of the main public's view, especially not after hearing this Greatest hits compilation (HMV doesn't even have it in their catalogue). Tracks such as "I don't wanna dance" and "Gimme hope Joanna" have a peculiar lasting effect on me. Eddy Grant's got a talent for capturing the essence of human life, and it really rocks.
