That this 2001 collection doesn't begin with "Sugar, Sugar", still the only number-one single of the year (1969) by a fake band, says everything you need to know. As much as is possible for a disc from a cartoon group inspired by a series of comic books, ABSOLUTELY THE BEST gives the Archies the serious treatment, presenting sixteen of their best songs in roughly chronological order. The music blurs past like a sugar rush, which is the point.
