Amazon.co.uk Review

What might have been a one-note family comedy becomes something more thanks to the comic brilliance of co-stars Nathan Lane and Lee Evans, as well as the distinctive, dark-fable look given the film by a little-known director named Gore Verbinksi (could he be the next Tim Burton?). Lane and Evans play idiotic brothers who inherit a house and all but destroy it in pursuit of one small, pesky mouse. The guys are always the butt of the sight gags--most of which are very funny--but their considerable powers as slapstick artists are also at play. The climactic scene at an auction was the funniest scene in any American movie in 1997, the year of Mouse Hunt's release. --Tom Keogh

4.0 out of 5 stars slapstick comedy caper, 13 Dec 2000
This review is from: Mousehunt [VHS] [1998] (VHS Tape)
This movie is silly beyond words, leaving my husband in fits of laugher. This is a perfect vehicle for Lee Evans' not inconsiderable talent at bending in odd places and falling over. Nathan Lane is just the right amount cynical/unlovable to be extremely funny but not so much that you don't care about him. I'm stunned that this comedy duo has not been used again. A good one to watch on a dreary wet Saturday afternoon (not that we get those in London of course)

5.0 out of 5 stars Imagine Laurel & Hardy + Tom & Jerry, 31 Dec 2004

I'm not sure I have seen a film like this before. If you could imagine Laurel & Hardy put into a modern context, then Tom and Jerry, then something alike the humour of The Addams Family, you may be coming close to what Mousehunt is like.

A great comedy both subtle and slapstick in its resources. I love this film, a great family film but also something adults can enjoy I am sure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant mixture of comedy and emotion, 8 Mar 2004
This review is from: Mousehunt [VHS] [1998] (VHS Tape)
The story of two down-on-their-luck brothers and a little mouse with somewhat un-mouselike behavioural patterns and how they come together in what could only be decribed as a full-scale Tom & Jerry cartoon.
Nathan Lane and Lee Evans are brilliant and the mouse - well, half the time I can't tell which is the real one and which is the animatronic one. The special FX are great.
A very funny film with a challenging underpinning moral of the importance of cooperation and family relationships.

The reviews for this movie are polarized. It is not that the color, sound, display, and actors are being evaluated. It is the genre and the content. Read more
