Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

As Moving shows, Wesseltoft is definitely on to something. These days, there's a lot of mixing dance and ambient beats with a vaguely jazz-like conception, and most of it, especially the music coming out of UK clubs, has little more musical substance than the beat and a few drones and samples. Wesseltoft, however, is a good musician and the possessor of a fine ear. He can mix'n'match and then add some scintillating keyboard patterns and lines on top, not just for spice. So the whole album, whether the rhythm track is computer generated, sampled or actually played by a real live drummer (there's combinations of all three approaches on this record), kicks like a mule (there's no doubt that Wesseltoft is in love with these beats) and keeps you interested. No nodding out here. Herbie Hancock is the obvious antecedent (Wesseltoft uses both acoustic and electronic keyboards), and that can't be a bad thing. --Keith Shadwick

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful moves, 18 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This is one of my favourite records at the moment. The combination of dance beats and jazz improvisation of the highest quality is perfectly judged. This is the smoothest of the three records he's made in this series, perhaps not as adventurous as the previous two, but it has a much more consistant feel to it. I'm not sure if it really is a new conception of jazz, but it is a brilliant jazz record

5.0 out of 5 stars bugge wesseltoft IS the future sound of jazz, 21 Jun 2001
this album is extremely chilled. unlike many other dance/jazz fusions which fall down on the jazz side, this style suits bugge perfectly. he is an exremely subtle improviser and his lines on top of the held synth chords seem to suggest so much more than what you hear. what he has done with the drums as well is excellent. there is simple drum programming, tha bass drum and clap for example, and then he has a live drummer on top playing all kind of rimshots, snares etc. this way, you get the effect of dance drums, jazzy drums, and also latin style percussion, because the live drum work combined with the steady thumping bass suggests latin rhythms.

my cd collection is mainly jazz classics, lots of trane, miles, bud, bird, and in my opinion, bugge wesseltoft is the first dance/jazz artist to make a record that fits in there.
