Product Description

Product Description

Here is the scenario: The year is 1966. You wake up to find that you are a small boy called Pip living in Missouri. Your best friend is Jake. And today he is coming over to play. Before panic sets in, you see your Emergency 'Just in case I time travel to 1960's America and wake up as an eight year old boy' Bag lying next to you. In it is the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Boxing Game that you packed last night before you went to sleep in the year 2008. This classic 1960s game will not alert your friends to the fact that you are, in fact, an adult from the 21st century. To complete the ruse, you will need to master the two controls that move your robot around the ring, and every now and again yell, 'knock his block off'. A word of caution: Jake can be a sore loser. If you see him turning red with fury, retire gracefully from the bout and suggest instead a glass of pop and I Love Lucy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing., 26 Aug 2009

Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
Had this as a kid and it was brilliant.
This version seems a bit more cheaply made. I am sure the original had metal necks
: they're now plastic.
Regardless, it is the same concept of moving robot boxers around, throwing punches and trying to get their heads to pop-up.
It was always frenetic but, in the past, over within a minute or so.
With this version it soon becomes obvious that thumb/arm-aches are going to occur before any robot head-popping as finger-pressed punches are woefully weak and the heads very stubborn. The tactic is then not to press the button with thumbs but whack it with the palm of your hand. This means moving the robot becomes less a tactic.
Eventually the head will go but the achievement is who was able to whack a piece of plastic often enough and hard enough rather than the result of any robot-based combat.
Very disappointing.
