This CD is delightful--including some noises from Simon Mayor and from Maire's sister Nollaig Casey on fiddle. The instrumental tracks do more for me than do the songs, and the feel of the CD is very polite, with something approaching a chamber music feel to it. Perhaps it's the sheer perfection of the playing that does it? If you like your Celtic music delicate, full of filigree and finesse, you will look hard to find it better than this. -- Alan Murray

This is a wonderful CD. Being a harpist I must say that I was delighted to hear some folk music for once and some original scores!
The Beeswing Hornpipe is really a delight to listen to. It reminded me of a music box tune only so comforting and cheerful and lively and yet it was composed by a Scottish fiddle-player in the 19th. Paddy Whack/Colonel Robertson/The Maid at the Spinning Wheel are wonderful jigs. Two Irish ones and a Scottish one. They are so light that it is like stepping on a cloud and forgetting all your trouble, dancing the night away. Banana Yellow is full of sunshine, coconut trees and seashore. You can really appreciate the mix between the harp and the guitar and it is truly marvellous! Donald MacLean's Farewell to Oban/Duntroon Castle is one of those tunes that you will want to mumur to yourself whenever you are feeling low as a wonderful cure. Twinkle Little Star sounds almost like country music and is also played by the harp, what a treat! The Hidden Pearl is a real treasure. It sounds almost like The Snowy Breasted Pearl but is in fact something different that is not Christmasy so that you can listen to it all year long, all day long and even your spouse will not tell you to stop it and will in fact hum it along from the other room ;o). It is so relaxing and deep it is worth buying the CD just for it!

So you probably ask yourselves why I am rating it only with 4 stars out 5. Well, some of the pieces are sung and even though Maire has a wonderful Irish high key voice I must say that I do not speak Irish and find it a bit hard to connect to. However I did appreciate the fact that all lyrics are translated into English so I guess it should be ranked 4.5 stars after all - I just could not enter it in the programme. By all means enjoy!
