4.0 out of 5 stars If You Don't Know Your JSF from a JDAM then take A Look..., 28 Aug 2001
By A Customer
JSF is the U.S.Navy and Air Force and the Royal Navy choice for the 21st Century. They are not as sexy as other better known types, but I prophesy that their fame will spread! There are 2 aircraft of very similar performance, the X-35(resembles an F-22) and the X-32 (looks unique), both being a mixture of the Harrier and Raptor fighters (that is vertical take off combined with stealth technology).

This is a simulation in the F-22 ADF and Eurofighter Typhoon class, with everything that they offer, except an in-flight refuelling sequence. There is a dark, foreboding lighting effect throughout, though, which adds a sinister atmosphere. The landscapes over which you fly are smooth representations of trouble spots in the world (the Russians have over-thrown the Islamic dictators in Afghanistan and now THEY need to be stopped! or the drug barons in Columbia). The targets and cities shine nicely in the changing day/night and weather settings. Everything, in fact, can be adjusted to your needs:from novice to ace, smoke or not, auto landing or manual or nearly anything you want! All very easy to operate.

The actual flight synamics are unknown as these fighters are brand spanking new. All the appropriate weapons are there (JDAMs, AMRAAMs, ALARMs and JSOW missiles etc.) plus the usual assortment of enemy planes (from Mirage V to good old MiG 29) and any armour you care to name. You get up to 3 wingmen, all of whom you can command and get inti formation, and you can be in communication or commanded by the AWACS aircraft too. Therefore there comes a bit of strategy to the general realism here.

The cockpit interior is loose, graphically, but the strength is in the amazing variety of views you can select, which move your helmet mounted sight around the MFDs (Multi Functional Displays that make up all modern combat plane interiors) or to pad lock on the enemy plane or ground target. You can even view everything from theunderside of the wings where the missiles live.

All in all a great package which should become more popular, I'm sure,as the fame of these planes spreads.
