Turkey's techno sleaze-queen Khan breaks out the broken English for his third long-player on Matador Records.
No Comprendo features a wealth of well-to-do artistic collaborators all with similarly unhealthy obsessions to "El Turco Loco" himself. Françoise Cactus bemoans her lack of adequately ample bosoms on "Les Gros Nichons" although unless you speak French you'd be none the wiser. Ex-Cramp Kid Congo Powers comes on like a cannibalistic lothario on "Why Hurt Flesh?" and graces the even less salutary "Vaseline". Beyond the pale (moon), "The Wolf", finds Khan howling like a mad dog over a stalking soundtrack as he tears his prey limb from limb in a no-holds-barred bout of predatory sex.
Jon Spencer quakes, shakes, hollers and yelps like the ghost of
Screamin' Jay on "Monster" and the falsetto on "Fishies Funk". Veteran blues-picker
Andre Williams dribbles drunken rubbish on "Mercy Mama" and valium torch singer Julee Cruise sings farewell to her lover on "Say Goodbye" as she dispatches him six feet deep. Digital Hardcore destructress Hanin Elias sets a lyrical honey trap in between
The Bee's dizzy distortion pyrotechnics. Diabolic soprano,
Diamanda Galas reveals a most polite banshee wail on the eerie River Styx drift of "Aman". Musically this is techno dragged kicking and screaming back to the Mississippi Delta by way of the sleaze-strewn streets of the Lower East Side, Manhattan. Psycho-sexual dance music with a gutter funk stank and a no-wave allure. --
