5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, lilting, haunting 60s masterpiece, 18 Nov 2001
By A Customer
I'm not sure I can find words to describe how fantastic this CD is. As a stand-alone album it is second-to-none, ranging from the laid-back (Aftermath of love) to the frantic (Music to interrogate by); the beautifully optimistic(Cantata for combo) to the darkly atmospheric (Shifting Gears), and showcasing the coniderable talents of Lalo's band - the flautist is particularly impressive. When you see the film it is apparent how talented Schiffrin is at picking up the mood of a scene and fitting the music to it - just listen to "Ice Pick Mike", my favourite song on the album. Oh, and of course don't forget the memorable title track, one of the all-time great movie themes. This is quintessential 60s stuff, with a Latin flavour thrown in, and even if you haven't seen the film, you really HAVE TO hear this music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Latin excitement meets sixties chic, 17 Feb 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bullitt (Audio CD)
This soundtrack contains both the atmosphere and the sly rhythms of the late sixties. Swaying between cutthroat spy-theme and elevator muzak, it retains the danger of the movie while providing a sensational listen. It's a much more accessible album than Schifrin's "Marquis De Sade", providing a breadth of style that is lacking in Schifrin's pure-jazz output. This album is simply the epitome of sixties jazz: orchestral, latin, bouncy and with a seriously easy-listening edge. This is Schifrin's peak, and should be recognised as a milestone on a par with with Roy Budd's "Get Carter" soundtrack. Gimme a dry manhattan, and this album...

5.0 out of 5 stars Tight fast tracks blend into beautifully balanced smooch, 21 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bullitt (Audio CD)
Classic music for a classic film. This CD is a 'must have' for anyone with an interest in sixties american thrillers.Lalo Schifrin balances the soft and gentle with tight, pumping chase music. I can't recommend this highly enough - enjoy.

A blast from the past by jazz maestro Lalo Schifrin. Great enjoyment to be had from rekindled memories of the premier car chase film Bullitt.
