Amazon.co.uk Review

John Huston was only one of five directors on Casino Royale, the expensive, all-star 1967 spoof of Ian Fleming's 007 lore. David Niven is the aging Sir James Bond, called out of retirement to take on the organised threat of SMERSH and pass on the secret-agent mantle to his idiot son (Woody Allen). The amazing cast (Orson Welles, Peter Sellers, Deborah Kerr and others) is wonderful to look at, but the film is not as funny as it should be, and the romping even starts to look mannered after a while. The musical score by Burt Bacharach, however, is a keeper. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

3.0 out of 5 stars Some great moments, but some dreadful ones as well, 28 May 2002
By A Customer
A very strange and uneven film. I find I can put up with the bad moments to savour the good, but let's not pretend that everything they tried in this film worked - some of it is dreadful. However, focus on the good. Deborah Kerr skins down a drainpipe in wellington boots; the dance scenes in Siam are magical; Ursula Andress is beautiful but (as we all know) cannot act; the Herb Alpert score is brilliant; Ronnie Corbett (seriously) is awful. It sort of grows on you a bit, but not one of the greats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Stuff - but not for all, 7 Nov 2003
By A Customer
You probably have to be at least 35+ years old to really enjoy this movie. Fanatastic Bond spoof by all involved. A Great cast supported by a hilarious story line and a wonderful music score.

Not everyone's cuppa tea - but if you're a fan from Peter Sellers type of Movies you'll enjoy this one.

The ou generation dont know what they are missing!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you buy one James Bond mspoof starring David Niven..., 11 Sep 2004
By A Customer
This film is definetely the best James Bond spoof I've ever seen. Even better than Get Smart.
The jokes are brilliant and spontaneous, the music is good. The film'slot is confusing as you mainly spend hours trying to decipher it.
I felt that the first act was somewhat slow to get started, but some of the jokes had me rolling on the floor.
Don't hesitate to buy this film. At this price you can't go wrong. And for those of you that don't expect 'the younger generation' to get it - I'm a teenager.
