EXTREME EVOLUTION!!!, 2 Dec 2002
By A Customer
ECW Extreme Evolution is a best of ECW DVD/video featuring a compilation of some of ECW's most memorable classic matches. This is the matchlist and my opinions:1)TV TITLE: Rob Van Dam(c) VS Jerry Lynn. (This match is from Hardcore Heaven 99 and is widely considered one of their best matches.Personally I think their match 2 months previous to this at Living Dangerously 99 was better but this is still a brutal, hard hitting match involving Lynn being legitimately knocked unconscious,2 five star frog splashes,a sunset flip powerbomb through a table and tons more.Any RVD,JL or ECW fan needs to see this)***** 2)ECW WORLD TITLE: Mike Awesome(c) VS Masato Tanaka. (Another hardcore war. This is from November 2 Remember 99 and was a tremendous match. How could a Awesome-Tanaka match not be brilliant.Their matches from Heatwave 98,Anarchy Rulz 99 and in FMW are known as classics. In this match we see an Awesome Bomb from the apron through a table,a superplex through a table,a vicious german suplex by Awesome and all 3 of Tanaka's finishing moves-Roaring Elbow,Diamond Dust and a Tornado DDT onto 2 chairs. An excellent non stop match)***** 3)ECW WORLD TITLE-BARBED WIRE MATCH: The Sandman(c) VS Raven. (This was the meaning of extreme, not much wrestling but lots of barbed wire, blood and tables. The match is from Holiday Hell 96 and finally brought the Sandman-Raven war to a head.Plenty of nasty bumps by both men.A few botched spots near the end take away from this match slightly but hardcore ECW fans will love this hard to find match from one of the bloodiest feuds ever in ECW)**** 4)TAG TEAM TITLES: Dudley Boys(c) VS Balls Mahoney & Spike Dudley. (A bloody match from one of ECW's early TNN shows in summer 99.This was also one of the last matches the Dudleys had in ECW before they left for WWF.Loads of weapons but the match seemed to drag in places and lacked something. The ending makes up for this though as Spike gets powerbombed through 2 burning tables ontop of each other.Their match at Heatwave 99 was a better match overall and still featured a burning table)***1/2 5)Eliminators VS Terry Gordy & Steve Williams. (This was possibly the weakest match on this DVD but it has it's moments as Saturn does a great elbow drop from a board near the ceiling used in scaffold matches. Also Dr Death Steve Williams gets powerbombed on the concrete floor. The match is from High Incident in October 1996)*** 6)GRUDGE MATCH: Taz VS Sabu. (A great match and probably one of ECW's top 5 memorable matches especially as it is from the first ever ECW PPV Barely Legal in April 97.This was one of the most anticipated matches and best built feuds ECW ever put together resulting in this classic match that gives us technical wrestling, hardcore violence, aerial offense from Sabu and a bone crunching series of Tazplexes at the end which could have broken Sabu's neck....again)***** 7)Tommy Dreamer & Beulah VS Shane Douglas & Francine. (This was another weak match but there are a few unplanned surprises that save it somewhat. The match itself is poor though)*** This is a truly great ECW release and would make for a great way to introduce someone to ECW.This and Path Of Destruction are two must haves from ECW and will get any first time viewer hooked.Yes there are a few poor matches but even they have their high spots.Three 5 star matches,a 4 star barbed wire match,Saturn's elbow drop and the burning tables are too much to miss. The only problem is if you already own Hardcore Heaven 99,N2R 99 and Barely Legal then you've already seen the 3 best matches.
