Product Description

CD Description

While many hard-core Black Sabbath fans consider 1975's SABOTAGE to be the band's most underrated album, it can also bepointed to as the beginning of the end for the original Osbourne-Iommi-Butler-Ward line-up. Osbourne was starting to feel disillusioned with the group, and the seeds for his highly successful solo career in the '80s were being planted. That said, SABOTAGE was the last Sabbath album to truly containall of the components that made the quartet one the most popular heavy metal bands of all-time, before it pursued less focused musical detours.
The album's most surprising cut is undoubtedly the tripped-out psychedelic rocker "Am I Going Insane (Radio)", which would be included a year later on Sabbath's greatest-hits collection, WE SOLD OUR SOUL FOR ROCKN' ROLL. Other standouts include the crushing album opener,"Hole in the Sky", as well as the ultra-stimulated rager "Symptom of the Universe", which would be used later as an opener for Ozzy Osbourne's 1982 solo live album of Sabbath nuggets, SPEAK OF THE DEVIL. While those just discovering Sabbath should stick with such landmark recordings as PARANOID, MASTER OF REALITY, and SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH, there are more than just a few highlights on SABOTAGE.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Sabotage' is The King of Rock albums, 5 Feb 2002
By watson_andyq@hotmail.com (Walsall, West Midlands, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sabotage (Audio CD)
I've always been a sabbath fan & I always will. For me 'Sabotage'represents the band at their most creative & powerfull. This is the album I tend to come back to more than any of the other jewels in the Sabbath crown. I can't recomend this album enough. If your looking for the peak of heavy rock, then this is the most complete collection of blistering, purposeful, imaginative & thrilling music produced from The Kings of Heavy Metal.'Hole in the Sky' will pull you straight in & wack your brain cells. Catch your breath with 'Don't Start (Too Late)', but hold tight for 'Symptom of the Universe'. This will burn onto your memory for the rest of your life!
This album has drama in 'Megalomania' & 'The Writ'
Lunatic ramblings in 'Am I Going Insane' & if you looking for a soundtrack for a black mass, try 'Supertzar. A riff so good, Ozzy refused to sing over it! I don't need to mention the might of Tony Iommi's guitar work. The solo that ends 'The Thrill of it All', is probably my all time favorite. Every Sabbath fan will tell you that this album should be loved to death. Its power will inspire you. No rock fan should be without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are You Going Insane? Yes Quite Frankly....., 26 Jan 2007
By Ed "ANationalAcrobat" (North Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sabotage (Audio CD)
Black Sabbath's 6th album is quite simply like no other, it finds the band experimenting fearlessly with everything from Synthesisers to Choirs. Of course when you combine this experimentation with Sabbath's mind numbly heavy metal you really do achieve absolute madness. Sabotage sees Sabbath at their most progressive and yet none of this experimentation feels forced.
This album, I feel personally has Ozzy's best ever vocal performance, he is just so very haunting throughout, he delivers Geezers phenomenally bizarre lyrics with such conviction and emotion it's staggering. Of course as with many Sabbath albums, Tony Iommi delivers absolutely stunning guitar playing with a wonderful thin yet dense guitar sound. Bill Ward also delivers some of his finest performances ever, see the immense filling on 'Symptom of the Universe', and of course Geezer proves himself to be once again the greatest bassist in existence with that heavy tone.
As with many Sabbath albums the song writing is some of the best their is with only 'Am I Going Insane' the albums attempt falling slightly below the standard. 'Symptom of the Universe`, 'Hole In The Sky' and 'Supertzar' terrifying riffs being amongst some of the best Sabbath (and therefore Metal) songs ever. So, in Conclusion if your looking to see a little more to Sabbath than 'Paranoid' look no further than here, of any of the other first six Sabbath albums for that matter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite, quite extraordinary, 24 Mar 2004
This review is from: Sabotage (Audio CD)
I once owned an album called Paranoid. I thought that this was a very good album. I was however, uneducated in the ways of the Sabbath. This album is at least as good as the aformentioned classic and deserves a place in every rock collection. Buy this today and you will not be dissapointed! The riffs, the solos, the (admittedly odd) singing all add up to one of the great rock albums of the 70s. Possibly my favourite piece of Sabbath with Ozzy. I wish I had been alive to see them live.
