5.0 out of 5 stars A forgotten classic, 11 May 2004
The Stud is Joan Collins at her finest. With her nose imperiously upturned, she plays the ludicrously named Fontaine Khaled - a rich bitch owner of a London nightclub managed by testosterone oilslick Oliver Tobias. In taxis, on pool-swings and in a goods lift, they conduct a breathlessly illicit affair that takes them from passion to heartbreak and betrayal in under 90 minutes. Fast work, Joan.

The film is set against the backdrop of shimmering seventies London in all it's Pucci-clad glory. While the film is much derided, it has a unique atmosphere - instantly making you homesick for a time and place you probably never knew. The club scenes are heady and claustrophobic and the Paris pool orgy will make your head swim.

But after all good parties comes a hangover. In this case it's The Bitch. Joan tries to work her charms a second time as Fontaine Khaled, but the champers has gone flat and her stockings have laddered. Some mimsy about an international jewel thief, a rival nightclub owner and a dodgy racehorse takes Joan through a bizarre story that seems almost improvised. The Stud's heady atmosphere has gone - as has Oliver Tobias, who strangely isn't even mentioned in the sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Soft core porn but lots of fun, 2 Aug 2004
By Scott A. Humphries (Australia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
These films have been rather classily packaged and presented on the one disc. The DVD is a sound investment for anyone interested in the world of '70s "sexploitation" films.

Pre-Alexis, Joan Collins is not only sexy but shows that wonderful bitch goddess promise that she later exploited so successfully and cleverly in "Dynasty". But these films were years before "Dynasty" - and they are much dirtier than anything you would see on American TV!

The stories, based on Jackie Collins' racy novels, are fairly thin, but quite enjoyable: in "The Stud" a gorgeous (whatever did happen to Oliver Tobias?) stud uses his prowess in bed and his fondness for hot disco music to climb the ladder of success, only to find that even he has his limits when he meets the sex-crazed, rich bitch Fontaine Khaled. Lots of sex, lots of disco, lots of Joan.

In "The Bitch" Tobias is long gone, leaving bitchy Collins to try and save her failing disco and bed as many men in 90 minutes as possible.

Both films feature theme songs.

Enjoyable, sleazy trash that still seems somehow far classier than the amny other films of their ilk.

5.0 out of 5 stars fab, 30 Nov 2008

Joan Collins at her best,
This is essential to any fan of Joan, along with Dynasty if you want to see the Blue Print for Alexis it is here Fontaine Khaled. Sue Lloyd is also really good in these films and they have an excellent sound track on both The Stud is Earls Court in the Late 1970s Joan of course looks fab in both the outfits and hair especially in the Bitch in the Disco scene where she is dressed in white are great, vintage Collins.

These films are fun worth owning on DVD.
