4.0 out of 5 stars Hop, Skip, and Jump, 26 Jun 2002
This review is from: Mokoondi (Audio CD)
An anagram of founder member of The Dylan Group Adam Pierce, Mice Parade is an exotic busy album, bursting with ideas and melodies. Most of the album is played entirely by Pierce and includes instruments such as, chengs (Chinese harp), Rhodes, acoustic guitars, saxophones, violin, Sc-pro one syths, vibes, and marimbas. Pierce's intricate drumming pins down these melodic swirls into jaunty, energetic pieces that are a sheer joy to listen too. Unconventional time signatures, slow guitar lines, and on the last track, the voice "incredibly friendly", anonymous coconut stand owner, dance and skip around the listener. In some parts one different drum part is played in each speaker.
Where this album trips over its own frantically tapping feet however are the two tracks "Mokoondi" and "pursuant to the vibe" - these tracks seem just to be a re-hash of the tracks before it.
Otherwise a Damn fine album!
